Will these four ever be a force in the NFL or is the potential turning into average? D-Ware could use a little help, don't you think?

Not sure why Ratliff or Hatcher is in that group...

If Demarcus needs help, Draft L. Woodley from Michigan....

Woodley is overrated. Spencer from Purdue would be a better choice. He will most likely go lower than Woodley because of less press.

hatcher i think has done more than all of the others for the time he has been in i think he has the best size and speed combination. Then i would say Canty who has just had to high of expectations. Spears is the guy i am surprised hasn't been a pass rushing force that we witnessed at LSU

Give them a little time. They're all playing fine to good and will only get better.

Yeah, I think they'll be fine too. Hatcher really shows a lot of promise at the DE position. He's very fast for such a huge guy and he has a knack for getting to the QB. He'll be a real plus for a lot of years in Dallas. Spears and Canty will continue to improve but I don't think they'll ever put up big sack numbers. At least not in the Dallas 3-4.

Ratliff is the one I really like. He always goes 100 MPH and he too seems to have a little knack for getting to the QB.

Overall, spending a 1st (Spears), 3rd (Hatcher), 4th (Canty), and a 7th (Ratliff) for that group of guys is very, very good value. That's all our starting and backup DE's for a 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 7th rounders. Pretty good. And like AustintoDallas said... they are all young and will only get better.

Several, how many Purdue games have you watched? Woodley has a much better surrounding cast. You guys that like Woodley over Spencer should check the comparible stats. Spencer is by far the better player especially when you consider the surrounding cast.

Anthony Spencer is the sleeper candidate. He got little press compared to Woodley. Purdue players v. Michigan players. Spencer has a 4.5 40 time when recruited by Purdue. He was double teamed most of the season also. Here is a Woodley v. Spencer comparison. Who looks better to you?

Forced Fumbles - Spencer 5, Woodley 4
Passes Defended - Spencer 6, Woodley 0
Blocked kicks - Spencer 1, Woodley 0
Sacks - Spencer 10.5, Woodley 11
TFL - Spencer 26.5, Woodley 15.5
Solo Tackles - Spencer 64, Woodley 25
Safeties - Spencer 1, Woodley 0

Purdue does very well with DEs and tweeners to LBs Akin Ayodele, Rosevelt Colvin, Gilbert Gardner, Shaun Phillips and Chike Okeafor to name a few.

Stats arent even close to telling the full story on NFL prospects.

Should I break out a list of number for you on Ryan Leaf... maybe Mike Williams to be a little more up-to-date ??

Oh and about a "surrounding cast," people say we had the best offensive line when we had Emmitt... should his rushing record have an * because his offensive line was dominant?

Couldn't have said it better. I was gonna question the Ratliff inclusion.

Michigan starts a DT who is an All American Purdue has 2 DTs both Sophomores and one is a walk on. Purdue and Michigan played a similar schedule why aren't Woodley's stats better? Oh it is because Spencer will be the next Ryan Leaf I guess. So tell me why Woodley is so much better than Spencer if you can.

I think it will take a couple more years for all of them and especially hatcher and Ratliff but I think both will be more than adequate backups, so much so that they could start for several other teams.

I know you like him as much as I do. I would love to trade down into the second round and get him but he probably will not be there.

I will have this talk at this time next year.

I will let Woodley do the talking.

You are probably just an Ohio St. fan trying to get under my skin anyway ;)

Wow what an insult, an Ohio St. fan, is there a lower form of life? No I am a Purdue boy and am very familar with Purdue's ability to turn out quality DEs.

I really wish you guys would have beat Ohio State I hate Ohio State.

:laugh2:

Sorry to insult you like that.

:laugh2:

But its all the same in this discussion.

I want a Michigan guy you want a Purdue guy.

Too much bias would be involved.

I don't think you would go wrong with either guy. Woodley was higher rated comming out of High School. He was a 5 star player and #1 recruit out of Michigan and was rated third in the country at his position. Spencer was lower rated #17 if I remember correctly and I think progressed further in college. I think he has a better upside.

Bottom line stats aren't everything.

I am sure you have not followed Woodley very close either.

The way he sheds blocks with his hands will remind you of Greg Ellis.

He is built like Carp but is much more powerful. He is exactly what Ware needs to take his game to a whole new level.

Someone else who can consistently put pressure on the QB and who is stout against the run.
