You know you can't start a Marcus Spears discussion thread without me chiming in!

Keep in mind that he's deceptively fast. LSU recruited him to play football and basketball out of high school.. he was originally a tight end. Everyone was shocked when Saban moved him to defensive end.... because he was the fastest tight end on the team, and he had good hands. Although his physical style is built more for a 4-3 defense, I'm glad to see him coming around this preseason.

actually thats been posted several times in here in the last yr or so, and no, they are not any worse...especially considering he hardly ever plays on obvious passing downs

which might change this yr because Hatcher and Bowen have both taken steps backwards

If I had to guess, it's because you posted five (or so) threads with individual thoughts...when you probably could've posted all your thoughts in one single thread.

Frankly he is looking at a big next contract and putting out the effort he SHOULD have been doing the last 3 years.

The main purpose of 3-4 lineman is to stop the run and clog the passing lanes which Spears does very well... I never understood all the extreme criticism because unlike Bobby Carpenter he's actually earning his money.

And it really is a shame how I (more of a lurker) have noticed how some folks on this site are very quick to judge and literally hate on some of their own team. I generally ignore such posts as just flat out ignorance. But Spears really does get sort of a large shadow cast over him. As soon as people stop trying to compare him to DeMarcus Ware he will be more appreciated.

No but I want to see him get more pressure on the QB like I stated atleast 3.5 -4 sacks isn't 2 much to ask for.
