I agree, I see Spears more as a DT in the 4-3.

The Texans moved Johnson to tackle in the 4-3 this year and he still hasn't done jack.

Man I hope Spears can get it turned around.

Bust? Spears is a pretty good run defender - he's crap as a pass rusher though.

That makes him one dimensional.
I thought we weren't in the business of bringing in one dimensional players.

Spears is a bust.
Rivera was a player five years ago, but now he needs guarding, rather than providing it.

Spears has always had the underachiever label going back to his days at LSU. He had a great Senior Bowl practice, but his production was hot and cold.

Why we thought we were getting any different is just us trying to feel good about ourselves. I am pretty guilty of that.

Canty I still hold out a little more hope. He just plays too high and needs some quality technical teaching. He is very tall and often gets his leverage used against him once a blocker gets underneath him.

We really need a better defensive line coach than we have as well.

Canty needs to go talk to Leon Lett. Lett was same height as Canty and had no problems getting a push.

What he needs is an attitude adjustment. he still might not be good enough but with the comments he made a few months ago how it's not his job to get the QB, it's no wonder he never does.

I mean I'm not sure what he thinks his job is if a team does happen to pass when he's in the game and he's 1 of only 4 that could get to the QB, but yeah.

I'm not ready to label Spears as a bust, at least not yet. Although for being a 1st round pick, he certainly hasn't shown me, and apparently others on here as well, that he warranted being a 1st round pick, IMO. I don't know what Valley Ranch saw in Spears in the first place, but I haven't seen anything from him yet that would justify him being a 1st round pick...no way!

It's really not. He's probably been told that a thousand times. He needs to fill holes, take on a couple of fat guys, stop the run and then he can get to the QB.
