Special Edition. The Tune has changed on Demarcus Ware

No longer is he being compared to the great Lawrance Taylor. JJ on Cowboys Special Editon was describing him as a Russel Maryland type..(still not bad). Ware was solid as a rookie with more expected next year.

Brad Shamm sure is company man. He never ask the tough questions, always stays with the (Dull Boreing) company message. He looks and act like a School Principle not a Football insider.

I agree.

That was unfair to Ware to compare him to the likes of the greatest LB of all time. Especially before he even took the field as a pro. Or as a LB for that matter.

When asked to simply pin his ears back, Ware has shown every facet of being a dominant speed-rusher, with the instincts and speed to shift gears and run down any play on the field. he's become a solid runstopper as well, and can hold his ground when asked to that, as well. but you are all right - although i didn't see the names Julius Peppers or Jevon Kearse mentioned - two players who also were much-hyped and built in the same mold as Ware. Hopefully he can become even better than they turned out.

A very silly comparison! Ware will be a very, very good player for the Cowboys for a very long time (I hope). As good as Russell was he might have a harder time now then when he came out.

The comparision was made to describe his work ethic and his will to be successful, not his playing style. When Jerry Jones said that I was thinking "wha???" and left scratching my head until he elaborated on it.

Jerry went on to tell a story about how they were either in a stadium or at a work out facility and he kept hearing a racket in the background and it was Russell Maryland hitting the sled by himself. Maryland thought he was the only one there.

Not to bag on Ware, but hes not be anything but one dimentional and hes been average at it. hes a speed rusher and if you watch him, hes rushing right along the outside edge of the pocket right past the QB on 75% of his snaps. The Olinemen just keeps him outside and lets his speed work against him.

Ware needs to learn an inside move, swim move, spin. Something. He cant just go around the boarders of texas looking for a QB. Hes got to stunt, move inside. move around. Learn other techniques. hes a bull rusher in a league where they deal with bull rushers very easily. They just keep em outside.

I like Ware and think hes gunna be very good. But hes young and early in his career. He did more this year just on athleticism and talent then on technique or proper scheming. Give him a year or two and check out the whole package then. I think you will likee very much what you see.

I completely agree. The LT comparison put unfair expectations on Ware considering he was switching positions and coming from a small school.

However, I was impressed over all with him. I really think that if we turned him loose on the QB more he could be game changing. Time will tell, but his rookie year was much much more productive than the rookie defensive ends we have brought in over the last several years.

I found it a very surprising comment coming from Parcells...who HATES things like that.

Ya know, I think Jerry's influence was all over that one. Remember Jerry making mention of Aikman when he drafted QC? It's all marketing and hype. It ain't about football.

That's why it surprised me when Parcells did it.

I totally agree Juke. Having said that, few performances by any player in recent memory reminded me more of LT than Demarcus Ware's performance against Carolina. That was thoroughly dominant. The swatting move as he was sacking Delhomme, the athletic plays against the run - vintage LT. Now can he perform like that more consistantly like the great LT? We shall see. The Maryland comparison is strange. We just need to step back and be very happy about the fact that it looks like we finally got it right when it comes to drafting a pass rusher. The guy came from Troy as a DE and had to learn a new position in a new defense and put up very respectable numbers. If I'm not mistaken, LT only had a couple more sacks his rookie year (I think 10, but I could be wrong) and he was making less of a transition from college to pro. Ware made quite a few big plays this year and will likely be even better next year when he is thinking less and just playing. I'm pretty psyched about the guy.

It would be nice to see us being a little more creative with how he is used. In the Carolina game, he was lined up on the opposite side a few times...but for the most part, he was on the right side either with his hand on the ground which meant he was rushing as a traditional 4-3 DE...or he was standing and dropping into coverage.

The utilization of him was beyond vanilla.

I didn't like the LT comparison, too early to start that. But yes, in the Carolina game, I thought of Haley also, but not before that game.

I think he'll be fine...especially if he is used more creatively.

The LT thing was unfortunate because IMO, LT was the greatest defensive player to ever play the game.

LT had an energy level that bordered on psychotic. He simply took over games purely by his presence.

Once Ware learns his position and gets more comfortable, I think he'll do things with more abandon. Should be fun to watch...

Unless of course if, when Parcells leaves, the new coach wants to run a 4-3

Peppers is way more than hype. I am looking forward to the game today because you get to watch Peppers on one side and Alex Brown on the other...both guys can dominate a game.
