Special? teams...

I hate to throw poop on this party, but there are three parts to a football team-offense, defense, & special teams. While our offense, despite having a carousel of inexperienced players at OL & WR, played heroically Sunday. Ryan's defense gave up a TOTAL of 206 yards, with six sacks. Gore gained a measly 47 yards on 20 carries.

So, why did we give up 24 points? SPECIAL TEAMS! Our coverage team is abysmal, and return team isn't much better. This just didn't happen yesterday. It has been a common theme ever since Joe DeCamillis became our ST coordinator. Yeah, I know, Dan Bailey kicked the FG that took us into overtime, then kicked the game winner...but if he wouldn't have missed a chip shot earlier in the game, overtime wouldn't have been necessary.

SF scored on drives of 68, 48, 29, & 9 yards. One short drive was due to an interception, but our STs continuously gave up huge returns, giving SF a short field to work with. If we are even thinking about the playoffs, I say fire DeCamillas NOW, so we'll have the rest of the season to improve. I mean, seriously, how much worse can we be bringing in another coach?

Bailey missed from 21

One of Buehler's kickoffs was ran back all the way to the 50...

Why do we have two kickers again? I mean, why do we even have one?

Punt coverege was amazing and I only recall 1 good KO return. The one were Buehler kicked it low and short for some reason.

I was feeling pretty good after this win. Thanks for reminding me that this team sucks and we will be lucky to win another game.

The good news will be Andrew Luck might be there for us in next year's draft.

We did shut Ginn down on punt returns. The squib kick hurt us though. And of course the missed FG.

but he'll get reevaluated at the end of the year. Hell yeah it's a concern. Ive been as disappointed as anyone...why do you all think Lee is playing special teams? But I'll tell you one thing right now: Joe D. doesn't have the horses....Choice, Brooking, James, etc...are all taking up roster spots and don't play special teams: it's MADDENING. Brutal roster mgmt. by Jerrah and Red, just brutal. Your backup LB's and RB's HAVE TO PLAY SPECIAL TEAMS AND PLAY THEM WELL. Jerrah talks about it with Choice...yet he's still on the friggin team:banghead:

My main problem is that it's taking two roster spots to maintain just an average kicking game. Folk has gotten somewhat better but he is still inconsistent and the Jets just live with it, but it only costs them ONE roster spot.

I'm still holding out hope that Bailey will settle down and find his groove,,, maybe even improve his leg strength for doing kickoffs next year.

only way I see us going with 1 kicker next year, is if Buehler just beats out Bailey or we bring in someone else. Almost every kick that isn't atleast 5 yards deep in the endzone, seems to gets returned for pretty good yardage.

I have no idea why he decided the skid that one along the ground instead of booting it into the Bay. He's here for one reason.

I have been tooting this horn since last year - our ST's suck, and the coach has to go.

They are uniformly bad. Coverage is bad. Kicking is bad. Blocking is bad, unless you are the other team looking at our punting, then blocking is good.

Methinks there is a little stadium-fell-on-yo-head issue that has kept him around long past his sell-by date. And that milk has gone bad.

I think Forbath comes off PUP in another month. Will be interesting whether we IR him for the entire year or if he takes (both) job(s) outright.

I think the Cowboys really liked him coming out of UCLA.
