I hate to throw poop on this party, but there are three parts to a football team-offense, defense, & special teams. While our offense, despite having a carousel of inexperienced players at OL & WR, played heroically Sunday. Ryan's defense gave up a TOTAL of 206 yards, with six sacks. Gore gained a measly 47 yards on 20 carries.
So, why did we give up 24 points? SPECIAL TEAMS! Our coverage team is abysmal, and return team isn't much better. This just didn't happen yesterday. It has been a common theme ever since Joe DeCamillis became our ST coordinator. Yeah, I know, Dan Bailey kicked the FG that took us into overtime, then kicked the game winner...but if he wouldn't have missed a chip shot earlier in the game, overtime wouldn't have been necessary.
SF scored on drives of 68, 48, 29, & 9 yards. One short drive was due to an interception, but our STs continuously gave up huge returns, giving SF a short field to work with. If we are even thinking about the playoffs, I say fire DeCamillas NOW, so we'll have the rest of the season to improve. I mean, seriously, how much worse can we be bringing in another coach?
