Cap ramifications aside (Abraham just got 18M guaranteed). With Zimmer in Atlanta, running the 4-3. With Carpenter coming on at OLB at the end of the season. With Ellis's injury and Abraham's history of injuries. Is this a win for either team?

I know what the Falcons gave up to get Abraham. It's just that I think they got taken. I also know Abraham really wanted to go to Atlanta, and I have no idea what his feeling would be about playing again for Parcells.

On our end, we'd be giving up a team leader in exchange for a paper mache head-case. Abraham will be 29 this year, Ellis is 32.

Greg Ellis, unfortunately, is done. If (big if), he does return, he'll never be the same. That is one serious injury he has.

Just trying to distract from the variety of Parcells-must-go posts on the board right now.

Good luck with that..........

Yeah. Achilles is tough to come back from, at his age. Is that the injury that did in Marcellus Wiley, for all intents and purposes, a few years back?

Flip side is Abraham's contract is much more risky, and he's an injury-mess himself. I know Atlanta's not going to deal Abraham, and if they did/could, they overestimated his value last season and they're not going to take a bath on him after giving up first round value.

Whatever we have to do to get a passrusher in here, I'm all for it. I also think Ellis is done, especially playing OLB. He was moving pretty slow to begin with, after that injury, he'll be basically walking out there.

IF Ellis comes back for next year (a big if as of now), the coaching staff will be able to use him mainly as a nickel DE since Carpenter or a FA can play every down OLB. Ellis gets his playing time back at DE and he stays rested.

That's to say he even comes back.

Keep him on the ground.

I think the cap ramifications for Atlanta would be terrible, since they just upped him and a trade would accelerate the signing bonus. Maybe that's wrong, but I think that's what happens.

He stay hurt as much as he stayed on the field..:lmao2:

Only injury-risk pass rusher worth going after is Simeon Rice. Read he may be cut.

I like Abraham, but has he had one season without an injury? You guys get on Glenn about his injuries, but this guy has him beat.

And just to add, Ellis has had two major injuries throughout his career. If he makes it back from this, I'm ok with him coming back and still bring in another guy. No reason to just roll the dice with the same cast of characters as last year.

abraham just got a signing bonus that they would have to eat.
ellis is coming off a seriuos injury
you have a better chance of winning the lotto today than a deal like this happening.

IF....and I say again, "if" Ellis does return, he'll never be the same again due to that particular injury, so I just don't see anyone else wanting to trade for him.

I admire your concerns of those threads. But this will be the first of just as many "BP must go" threads. For the trade a player no one would trade for for someone that no team would trade away thread. Or one of many impossible trade threads. :D

Ellis, even though his salary is cap friendly, but has what 3 years left, and coming off an achilles tendon injury and an aging player. No team will touch that.

If he comes back he has no business being a starter at OLB in the 3-4. Hopefully the coach, whoever it may be, will know this and so will Ellis. He might be a decent nickel DE but that would be the only spot on this team that he could fit.

Is this the official start of the "let's trade our crappy/injured/practice squad/inactive players for the other teams star player," thread?
