I wouldn't jump the gun on this. He may or may not need surgery at some point. We don't know if he has a meniscal tear that may heal by itself or need arthroscopic surgery to repair. We certainly don't know if he has missing cartilage that would require microfracture surgery. But I have some concerns. We'll know as time goes by.

It's interesting because what he said was (paraphrasing) he does not have much soft cartilage on the inner side of his knee, so not much there to prevent bone on bone banging.

I am certainly not a doctor, but I am not sure how that just gets better on it's own.

That's a good question and I'd say yes right now. There's a lot that can happen between now and the draft though. I'm not going to count Spencer as good as gone. He's too good a player to give up on yet. This may make him more palatable for us to sigh should his health not preclude that. We need him back though. I'd love to see him on the field ASAP if he can perform as expected.

I do too as well but I think his best days are behind him. I doubt that he will ever play more than 10 games in a season. We need stability at that position moving forward, not question marks. They can't franchise tag him again, its a contract or let him walk, I say do the latter.

Yeah let's get all we can out of him this season. He is motivated also to play since he needs to get his last big FA money somewhere. It's too bad for him I can sympathize the guy has performed well for us and he has his future to worry about.

Well, that's why I said I have concerns. If he has a flap tear that's not healed then it may repair itself. Often you have to scope the knee and suture it down. I don't know what 'not much soft cartilage' really means tho. It could mean not much at all like none or that it is thin on the medial surface or there is a flap tear or even a chunk missing. Without more data all I can give is a speculative albeit educated guess. It's still a guess.

You may be right. I think we have to see how the hand plays out before assessing our position.

Agreed. Let's hope for the best. It's still my opinion he's the best guy to play over there despite Selvie doing well with the pass rush.

Thank god we didn't pay him that $500 million 20 year contract that he wanted.

Do not pay for age! Do not buy stocks at their high point !!!

Yes, I am just speculating as well, but it sounded to me in watching his interview, like a guy who knew he would be struggling with this all year and was just going to have to tough it out the best he could.

Jerry made THe right call on this one . He didn't sign him long term , sounds like he might be done for the year , he needs micro fracture surgery .spencer will likely never be the same , the only way he could play is maybe 20 snaps per game and it will be painful throughout . If he chooses surgery now he is done for 12 months .

This is what the fan is reporting

jerry made a VERY bad call by franchising spencer this year

there is a reason why you dont give long-term contracts to players close to 30

the "unexpected" (in a bad way) happens way more to them

I would rather have Selvie than Spencer anyways. Selvie is a monster

Also glad Ware is only signed through 2 more years.

It's 4 more years, actually.

The team added two additional years to the contract when they restructured it last off-season to pro-rate Demarcus Ware's new signing bonus over five years (maximum allowed) when creating cap space for this season.

We're getting solid production from the position without him. Mr. "I dont always go all out" is the last lazy holdover on defense

I will never understand why one of the most valuable players on this team gets bashed so much. He was the defensive MVP for us last season.

So, when I was young, I ran competitively (practice 15 to 20 miles/day)...I have had both knees scoped...at times, I can barely walk since one of them has no cartilage left in it...I feel for the guy if he is missing that - it is painful for me, but he relies on his knees for speed, balance and most importantly, lateral movement...he won't get that with little to no cartilage...
