Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer will undergo knee surgery expected to sideline him 2-4 weeks, per ESPNDallas.

Guess he won't get much practice in before the start of the season then.

Does anyone else wonder if he put off the knee scope so it wouldn't hurt his contract talks? It should be no big deal in a month but hard to believe he just started having pain after the 1st day of practice.

You know he knew about this all off season long...He should have had this done as soon as the season was over with...Was he in the room during Reds speech two days ago? TEAM, TEAM, TEAM, DALLAS COWBOYS, NFL, DALLAS COWBOYS, NFL!!! Apparently not...

He's on the wrong side of 30 in a new NFL landscape where that's the last place you want to be when you're up for a contract. Spencer has incentive to do nothing other than ball-out this season.

So after all the speculative spazzing that Mike Fisher did about this. Even suggesting that his leg could collapse like the Kevin Ware dude, it's just a scope..

smh

Not a big deal. The good thing is that Wilber will get a ton of reps.

I agree and in the meantime if he misses 3 weeks he will still get back in time to get some snaps in pre season. Worse thing would be to sit and wait only to end up having it done as we get into the reg season.

@NFL_ATL: Jason Garrett confirms surgery for Anthony Spencer later this week. Rough start for Cowboys D to camp.

Garrett says he expects Spencer to have no trouble catching up. "we just wanted to make sure we got it cleaned up."

Jason Garrett: We don't think it's a severe thing. We just wanted to get it cleaned up sooner than later.

Jason Garrett on Spencer knee injury: "We don't think it's a very severe thing. We don't feel like he'll be out too, too long."

From what I read, the knee problem developed in June.

Better to lose him now then when the season starts
