Not a chance. For 11 million we could have had 2 players of Spencer's caliber.

Being 29 is the wrong side of 30?

Guess he won't get much practice in before the start of the season then.
Sorry - I meant next year when he's up for the new contract, I didn't make that clear. He needs to have a monster year to get another 10M+ guaranteed in his next deal is all I'm getting at, not coast.
Surgery for a bruise? Me thinks there is something they aren't telling us...
Does anyone else wonder if he put off the knee scope so it wouldn't hurt his contract talks? It should be no big deal in a month but hard to believe he just started having pain after the 1st day of practice.
Exactly.
I don't view it as a big deal.

from what i've read he was hurt in TC at the first day. But anyways if he had that injury already to me that smell more like he wants to skip time of camp. I'm just not a fan of this guy and this injury adds up to it.
Fair enough, but regardless of how well Spencer plays this year, he won't be getting a 10M+ a year deal anywhere. I don't even think his agent was looking for that. From what I read, he was looking for around 8 and Dallas wanted around 6. The going rate for DEs dropped for some reason this year and that will hurt Spencer. I think that's the reason he decided to play for the tag this year and get a BIG chunk of up front money. Even if he gets 6M a year deal next year, he'll still have an extra 10M in the bank, so it works out really well for him. His only gamble is an injury that would hurt his future value.
Dallas is paying extra for him now, but they don't have any future years on the books to worry about at this point, so it works to their advantage in that respect as well. I wouldn't be all that surprised if we DO end up giving him a deal next year if he's affordable enough and plays well. Crawford's injury really plays into that.
Sorry I had to call you out on the age thing, but I've seen that too often, when someone argues against a player being resigned, they inflate his age. Spencer was 32 years old at one point this past April. Putting in false information to make a point seems more valid aggravates me. Even if it was unintentional in this case.
4 weeks from now is only August 20th, and there are 2+ weeks from then until the start of the season.
Oh thank goodness.. he is going to get 2 whole weeks...
He'll be practicing for over 1/3rd of the preseason and it'll be the important part that leads up to the season. If this is all it takes for you to hit the panic button you're in for a long year.
