"When Spencer is healthy"....when was that??

2007-2012... he had a bad injury in 2013 and it carried over in 2014. By the end of the year he was looking like his old self. You can judge his entire career on an injury but he brings pressure and is a playmaker.

Spencer is highly serviceable as a situational DE and/or backup. I wouldn't overpay for him, though.

If I were a betting man, I'd be likely to bet the C'boys' organization feels much the same way on this.

If he is, we are screwed.

I wouldn't say that. He's just getting healthy, keeps himself in great shape, he's a leader in locker room and he looked like a crazed dog in the playoff game against DET. He was bringing it.

For a team friendly deal, he should be in the rotation at LE until we find a new starter.

He should've been shown the door after making this comment a few years ago. Definitely not the kind of "leadership" the young guys in the locker room need to be taking after

“You can’t mail days in in this league,” Spencer told Dan Graziano, ESPN.com’s NFC East blogger, in a phone interview Thursday. “And I definitely found I was doing that last year.”

How about that admission. I look at that as a guy being honest with himself during a a self-diagnosis, looking for ways to improve his play. He did just that and following this article had his best year ever.

Yea there was something very significant about that next year too, I believe they call it a contract year...but I assume you think its just a coincidence. He's a freakin bum

I disagree I think the entire team mailed it in that year. He was asked a question and answered it. When healthy he is a greg hardy light with no off field issues.

No matter who they get, if they are not better than last year's defense Romo isn't getting his ring. I like building the dline the same way they did the Oline but Romo doesn't have three years playing at last year's level left. By the time it's all said and done he may not be able to win it all; or he may not be on the team to give them the QB experience to get them there after all the pieces have fallen into place.

I am in favor of bringing him back, but I think it's a mistake pinning the team's hopes on Spencer being an every-down starter at this point.

He has averaged 4.1 sacks per season over his career and he is definitely in his twilight years.

In 2012 he was a standup 3-4 OLB. Fast forward to 2015 -- it will basically be a pleasant surprise if he can hit his career average in sacks as a 4-3 DE.

I don't disagree, but I'd rather resign Spencer who I know can produce than sign a scrub or reach DE in the first round.
