I think Washington can be good next year if they go back to GIbbs, smash-mouth football, they have good RBs, and a good line, plus Campbell seems to have the potential to play within the O, and with that running game, they can use Santana Moss to stretch the D, and Cooley to stretch the middle of the field like Antonio Gates does for LT in San Diego, use Lloyd and Randle El as intermediate targets, and even deploy Lloyd as another deep option to stretch the D even further

this next offseason they need to go the low-key route, and just assemble a group of solid veterans that play within the system, like NEw England did in their Super Bowl run, I don't know how they're going to fix that D, but they should restructure Springs contract, and sign Roderick Hood of the Eagles, and use their high 1st on one of the pass-rushing DEs coming out, and maybe they can find solid role-players at LB to complement Marcus Springs, and a solid, workman-like SS

this team can be good if they stop w/ the failed expirament of high-priced contracts

I can't believe I actually see an immediate future w/ this team, or even see good in it, but here I am

and get some Oline depth

Yeah.. there's still two games left - and the playoffs.. and they're talking 2007 already? Someone is a Commanders diehard fan. They'll win it this offseason, again. I read somewhere they have 1 million in cap room - exactly. Know what that means?

Bye Bye Springs, perhaps trading Portis, and some other high priced FA's that haven't done **** for them - Randel El? Archuleta(SP?)

Brilliant GM those Skins have.

and it's funny though, last year, when we made the playoffs, we basically did that. The only "splash" that we made was signing rabach(if you want to consider him a splash)

It's just hard to believe that after a good season like they created last year, that they would go out and change the whole team around. Hopefully they will learn their lesson and stop with all this foolishness, but who knows.

the funniest part of this thread is that people keep refering to the offseason. Yet, Baldinger doesnt reference free agency ONCE in the entire article. This article is about the team we have now, and what they COULD do next year.

yet, you all bring up free agency for some reason? It's kind of hard to believe that with such an outlandish article, that you all(besides silverbear and a few others) can't find anything to challenge besides something that he doesnt even mention within the article.

Well, I do think that what transpires this next offseason is relevant to the discussion... the rest of the NFC East will be upgrading (or at least, TRYING to upgrade, we don't know what specific decisions they'll reach), so if the Skins don't, they'll be backing up...

And Baldinger did kinda reference free agency once, when he talked about the need to get a top pass rusher...

I find your candor in characterizing the article as "outlandish" refreshing... seems that any homer in you is pretty much under control... this is impressive because I'm still undone from time to time by my Cowboys homerism...

They don't call me Pollyanna Bear for nuthin'... :D

Y'know, that's a really astute observation... the one year in the Snyder era that they didn't go out an break the bank in free agency, they had their best season in years... they built a little continuity, a little cohesion, and made it work for them...

So what do they do?? Why, they go out and dive into free agency like madmen, and go and change their entire offensive system (one thing that will clearly help the Skins will be increased familiarity with Saunders' extremely complicated system)...

It was quite curious, really... it tends to reinforce my entirely subjective opinion back then, that they only went the conservative route in free agency because cap constraints that year pretty much forced them to...

EVERY single year, the Commanders "win" in the off-season. They always come in here and smack talk about how great their team will be, and every single year, they suck.
