I got that impression too-there were reports that the Pats' practices were aweful the week before. And the players not only looked tight before/during the game, but they just didn't have any kind of fire or emotion(Rodney Harrison, in particular, looked like he had red eye).

Oh-cheating or no, this Pats team nonetheless had alot of glaring weaknesses(to be fair to those other Pats' teams, they had far fewer)...

1. Ellis Hobbs is WORSE than Jacques Reeves.

2. Their LBs are old and almost washed up.

3. Rodney Harrison is way past his prime.

4. Asante Samuels finally got exposed for what he is-now I can't wait to see how well TO(and for that matter, even Plax and Santana Moss) match up against him.

5. The Pats' OL is only mediocre, at best.

6. Laurence Malroney ain't no Corey Dillon-he looked more like Julius Jones, at best.

7. Josh McDaniels is a HORRIBLE playcaller(Charlie Weis would have called screens to death against those non-stop Giant blitzes).

8. Dean Pees(their DC) is nothing more than a gopher boy.

As you can see-even if they STILL can cheat, this squad is too mediocre even with this help.

I really admired the Patriots up until this all broke. And when they dissected us in the Season, I was even more impressed, given all the media swirl going on over Spygate.

But something happened to this team SB week.

Undefeated, yet so un-prepared..?

Had a game plan that couldn't have stopped a Pop Warner team from gaffing them offensively and defensively like the Jints did.

I don't know. That was a monumental failure there, but why..?

The guys in Vegas took a bath on that one.

I hear ya... except I admired them until the very first mention of cheating from Mangini(I think we agree there or do you mean when the new story broke right before SB?)

Anyways... I wasnt that impressed when they beat us. I thought we could have done a better job all around and beat them. But we didnt. No prob. It was business as usual for the Pats "stick around long enough to weather the storm and win the game in the end" which they did.

I dont agree that something happened to them SB week. It was the same old stuff "end of game, game winning drive and that SB was won" - something freaky happened and the Giants pulled it out. But as close as it was... they were on the verge of winning another SB by few points (would have been 4 pts instead of 3 pts this time)

It doesn't matter, either way, cause I highly doubt they're going to reverse any Superbowl decisions or anything like that. There is no way to prove, either way, that taping walk throughs caused the Patriots to beat the Rams or the Eagles.

Did it help? I'm sure that it no doubt helped. But it would be impossible to prove that those walk throughs were the ultimate reason for them winning.

Agreed.

But just put yourself in their shoes(the SB losers) I would be livid.

Look at the Gold Medalists that get their medals taken away for using PED's. Just put yourself in the silver medalists shoes or the bronze medalist shoes or the person that came in 4th.

It sucks for them.

Does it really matter if you can prove with certainty if the cheating caused them to win or not?

Does it matter whether steroids have been conclusively proven to be able to help you with hand-eye coordination? If Barry Bonds tested positive for steroids, do you have to show exactly how many extra homeruns he hit over what he would have hit without them?

Did the NCAA have to prove that SMU's rules violations led to x number of wins?

Of course not. You cheat, you break the rules, you pay the price.

Just a note:

The advantage with Steroids in baseball for hitters is 10-15% in distance of flyball and for pitchers its obviously to throw a little harder. I have never heard an argument for hand-eye coordination advantage.

The creator of the drugs that Barry Bonds *allegedly* used claims that they have studies showing a significant increase in hand and eye coordination for those who have taken stuff like the clear, etc.

It doesnt make pitcher throw harder. It helps them recover for starts and between relief innings over a 162 game schedule.

Sure-the Pats cheated throughout the decade, however-it doesn't take away the fact that Charlie Weis has been a VERY gifted playcaller throughout his career. He would have screened the non-stop Giants' blitzes to death.

In a '06 reg season meeting with the Colts(assuming they were still cheating), Josh McDaniels called like 50 pass plays in THIRTY degree weather against the league's last-ranked run D(remember how BAD the Colts were in this area that year). Not only he just completely abandoned the run, but there were VERY few play-action fakes called. Result? Brady gets picked off 4 times. Weis, OTOH, would have fed Dillon/Malroney to death in the ground game. Same with the AFCCG game against this same team-after going up 21-3, his playcalling got schitzophrenic from being too conservative to just abandoning the run altogether.

This is pretty much what happens to a coach, even the great ones, when their coaching staff gets gutted out. Happened to Parcells, eventually, as well.

Flash back to the '94 playoffs when we were going after a repeat-the fighting between Jimmy and Jerry escalated to its WORST heights.

*shrugs* We still destroyed our 3 opponents. You thought that was nothing more than a minor distraction?

What happened in the SB was what happened to any team that was able to hit the Pats in the mouth and keep hitting them. The Ravens, and even the Eagles D just kept coming and hitting and coming some more. The Giants did it even better and put the cork in the bottle. Add to that an old D that got worn down and the result is no suprise.
