News: ST: Byron Bell ready to step in at left tackle if Tyron Smith can’t play

I'm sort of being funny .. but I wonder if anyone has ever thought about this? :D

Maybe they can move the center over .. So, you would have ..

LT - LG - RG - C - RT - TE

That way Dak could line up further away from the left side?

Either that or roll out right on every play :D

I kept telling my wife they should have swapped martin and green at least for the rest of the damn atlanta game when green was obviously not getting it done. If nugent would have made the damn field goal ....it was still a ball game at that juncture.
That would of been weakening two positions on the Oline. Martin hasn't played LT since college and who would of taken over at RG for Martin?

You really wouldn’t have a right guard. You would have a left guard and a more left guard.

LT - MLG - LG - C - RT - TE

I hope our highly regarded coaching staff is working with him as we speak.
O yeah, I'm sure they're coaching him up great. One thing our coaching staff does better than anyone in the league is make adjustments. On Sunday night I will pray for Dak.

I am still wondering what it will take for them to move Zack Martin to LT.

This may not be desperation this week, but another game like Atlanta, we'll see how worried Garrett and Co. are about saving the season.

I am not even entertaining the idea of them coaching for their jobs.

Guaranteed Zack Martin is better than any of the other losers we have at LT.

Why not both? Our backups at this position is enough to laugh at but the thought Dallas will game plan better because of this issue will have you laughing even harder.

You may just laugh yourself to tears.

Here's an idea, we play the jumbo set with 2 left tackle on that side. Surely the 2 could stop one man.... Right?

It's a thought -- whether it's workable due to the league rules is something I'm not sure of. It just might entail eliminating another man somewhere else, however. Perhaps it's food for thought, nevertheless.

paying for this line has been worth it. we are using it for all its worth.

For the sake of getting more bang for their bucks, in the offseason, they'd better find and acquire some others to replace both Green and Bell as our backups on the left side. Obviously, neither has performed well enough to be the answer for either LG or LT, imho.

""I get in trouble when I play complacent and timid"

Are you kidding me what is this an encounter group or an offense of line.

DAk do us a favor start counting to 3 and just hit the ground

Isn't Bell the same fellow that was beat for 2 sacks in like 12 plays once Green was benched??

Yep.

He's been abysmal as a left tackle as well. The guy is a big, slow-footed guard prospect. A right tackle in a pinch.

Anyone - especially these coaches - that believes that Byron Bell at left tackle is any sort of an "answer" is fooling themselves.

This is absolutely a lesser of two evils deal and the worst part is that between Bell and Green, I'm not sure which one is the lesser evil.

Move the TE over to the left side in obvious passing situations and double team the end.

"But that's one less receiver!"

What good are receivers if your QB gets killed in less than 2 seconds?

Sounds like they need a serious rethink on the Tackle position. Maybe move Collins to left tackle and move one of the other two losers to right tackle. At least Collins has the quickness to not be beat to the outside like his feet are planted in concrete.

It's silly to me to overreact to Green's bad game by making this move unless Green is just showing that he's not getting it. If Green had sucked since we drafted him, then I'd have been all over cutting him and replacing him. He was considered a solid tackle coming into this season, to the point that we gave him a chance to compete for the starting guard spot.

Starting a player who has never been more than a subpar tackle over one who may have had a one-game aberration is a poor way to handle this IMO. Give Green a little rope and see if he hangs himself. If he does, the backup plan needs to be kicking Martin out to tackle and putting either Bell or Green inside.
