ST: Changing Jason Garrett won’t fix what haunts Cowboys

Garrett was involved in that first round trade down this past draft as you or I were.

We've had two straight puppet coaches now, we're due for a strong head coach presence to come in and put Jerry in the corner.

For a long time out? I wish. Jerry seems to be more involved now than I ever remember.

The man is not without flaws — game management and play-calling come to mind.

These reasons are the biggest reasons why Garrett should go! The ability to be good in situational football is the thing that separates good coaches from great ones.

Give this team a coach that can do that and I can see 3-4 wins past .500, not to mention being able to beat playoff contending teams!

i dont agree
jerry is obviously the biggest problem but that is not changing
why not try to fix what we can?

why keep a HC that we know will be mediocre in the current environment? maybe another coach can do better
why keep doing what you know is failing, at least try something different

this is where I have more optimism. I do think Jerry moving out of GM position is possibility. It looks like he can't even stomach it much longer.

we know that we will certainly always have a flawed team with jerry jones as GM but you can't tell me a better head coach (not even a great one) would not have this team sitting 1-3 games better right now.

I think I can tell you that providing that coach is working in the same environment Garrett is right now. Where he can't even lock the bathroom stall without Jerry's permission.

I'm not sure Garrett wouldn't be 1-3 games better if his owner was sane. That's the point of the article.

If Jerry actually hired a GM he'd tell that GM he has to keep Garrett as HC. Again, hands of the people who are trying to do their job are tied up so they can't wave or salute. Who wants to come here to work at any position knowing there are constant restrictions to the normal operating procedure?

What? What has he done or said that makes you believe this?

IMHO the dude is Al Davis part 2.

He isn't letting go of the steering wheel until his heart gives out.

Oh come on Risen, you can't blame Jerry for foul ups in time mgmt. Those don't happen because our GM didn't sign a guard.

I don't think there is any way Jerry steps away from being GM. He thinks he's doing a good job.

There has to be some sort of credit for a guy who has us in contention to win the division with one of the worst defenses in NFL history. This is coming from a guy who isn't a big Garrett fan. He doesn't learn from his mistakes, and for a guy with an Ivy league education, he should have all of the scenarios memorized at this point.

I equate it to being a decent poker player. You don't have to be a math genius to be a good hold em player, because the pure math percentages have already been calculated. Once you have a decent rote knowledge of percentages in certain situations, you can make informed decisions. Garrett still is lost in the moment. After being raised in this game, you would think he would be an expert in these situations.

With that said, he seems to be a decent motivator.

It's because the division is so bad and the Cowboys haven't beat a winning team all year. I wonder what the Cowboys record would be in the NFC West?

The Eagles took advantage of a weak division for half a decade. I don't think it bothered them too much.

It should because they didn't win anything important. If I was an eagle fan and my team dominated the division like that with nothing to show for it, I'd be sick.

Opposed to us, who have 1 playoff win in the same time period?

I'd be more than willing to make it to the playoffs year after year after owning the division even if it meant falling short. Much better than what I've seen since I've been a fan.

One playoff victory. One.

As much as I want garret gone hes probably right. Theres not much talent here and the whole organization doesnt care about winning. This team will be poor for many years to come.
