“I’m Greg Hardy, it’s a pleasure to be here,” Hardy told the crowd at the University of North Texas at Dallas. “I’m really grateful to have this opportunity. ... To have understanding coaches, understanding organization, understanding Texas ... Dallas, Texas behind me is a wonderful thing.

“You don’t always get second chances, so I’m grateful and honored that I can come here today and give back to all these people — all these great people.

Hopefully this thread will get as much traffic as the other Hardy threads. Nobody is all bad.

Well, I'm in the group that thinks he isn't all bad... so good on him... a little charity is a great gesture... let's move forward.

He was never in trouble before.
This case was full of holes and eventually dropped.
He hasn't been in any trouble since.

I still don't understand the amount of hate and vitriol this case created.

Good for him and I hope he signs long term with DAL.

He may be back for the simple reason that he may not want to go to another city and have to start all over rebuilding his image again. Most teams fans will be against signing him.

I think he signs back on another 1 year deal to continue to build his value for a huge deal. Nobody is going to sign him long term after the off the field drama this season coupled with his replaceable sack total.

Has this been reported by Albert Beers or Adam Schefter? It can't be true then.lol. Good job Hardy. I hope the Cowboys sign him at a reasonable price.

Is it too much to ask to just accept his gesture for what it is and not feel the need to use this situation as a vindication of his domestic violence case?

Yea... this one incident had way more legs than it should have. No one cared nor dared question after the rice thing.

That said, he is a great player, but he was played way too many snaps this year. If he signs, he has to be used wiser

Why should it? Many players do charitable acts for others, especially at this time of the year.

Its a human interest story because of his rep. It would get clicks which is what the media has come to. He's not just another player in the public eye so when he does something like this it's notable not for the act but because it's him.

The reason Hardy's domestic abuse case became a national story is because of what happened to Ray Rice and how the NFL plans to handle domestic abuse issues.

Players giving to charity (which a great many do) is not a national story unless it's unusual in some way or unless a team is being highlighted on a national stage (like Sunday Night Football or the playoffs).

Hardy giving to charity isn't a national story. And even if it is him, it would be at the least transparent and at the most, patronizing to audiences.

It would almost be viewed as trying to mitigate the more serious issue of domestic violence by highlighting his charity work on behalf of children, i.e., "He may rough up women, but he really loves children."

People won't fall for that, and, in fact, many would see it as insulting.

Being who he is makes him unusual and thus subject to a story but your point is valid.
