Cowboys tight end Jason Witten will return to the Pro Bowl for a ninth time. He replaces Denver tight end Julius Thomas, who will be in New Jersey for the Super Bowl instead of in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl.

Witten was an alternate behind San Francisco’s Vernon Davis, New Orleans’ Jimmy Graham, Thomas and Cleveland’s Jordan Cameron. He joins teammates Tyron Smith, Dez Bryant and Jason Hatcher for Sunday’s unconferenced All-Star game. Smith, Bryant and Hatcher all are making their Pro Bowl debuts.

Witten earns his ninth Pro Bowl in 11 seasons. He did not make the Pro Bowl in his rookie season of 2003 or in 2011.

He replaces "Denver" TE?????

He replaces "Denver" TE?????

They are all lumped together this year for some kind of fantasy football Pro-Bowl with Prime Time and one other legend whose name I can't remember doing the draft.

Good to see Witten make it again.

He deserves it. Nice to have Witten and Dez next to each other on the team.

Congrats to Witten

Anyone know who else might be added to the roster as alternatives?

Too bad Romo cant go, you'd think he would be at-least the 2nd alternative if he was healthy

You can't remember Jerry Rice? Blasphemy.

Here's a complete list of every TE who went to at least 6 Pro Bowls, plus every HOF tight end.

Tony Gonzalez 13
Jason Witten 9
Shannon Sharpe 8
Antonio Gates 8
Charlie Sanders 7
Steve Jordan 6
John Mackey 5
Jackie Smith 5
Mike Ditka 5
Kellen Winslow 5
Dave Casper 5

Ozzie Newsome 3

Funny everybody congratulating Witten now where more than one here treated Spencer's Pro-Bowl appearance last year like it was blasphemy.

But he was a replacement! He stinks in real life! Has for years and years!
It don't not no count, no way, no how! No how! No way!

I snicker at the pettiness of those posts.

But please! Continue congratulating Witten on his "Replacement" Pro-bowl appearance.

For the record on this post- I love Witten and he deserves everything he can get. I still laugh at the hypocrisy of it all...

LOL

Pro Bowls are popularity contests. They are meaningless, if he made All Pro you had have something to congratulate him about.

What was the point of this post?

This is the entire list of every skill-position player with at least one All-Pro selection and 9 Pro Bowls, who is NOT in the Hall of Fame:

Manning
Gonzalez
Favre
Brady
Witten
