Something odd is up with that situation.

I'd like to have him, but I understand why they don't want to use their waiver position on him. Dallas is in good position to scoop up a useful player in the coming weeks.

Do we get moved to the bottom of the order if we make a claim? I didn't think that was the case. If so, then I do understand it...maybe we would be holding off for a DE or something else.

Don't you think that if a team really wasn't set at QB they would offer a pick for Foles? I don't believe there is a market for him for QB1.

I can see Dallas spending for a back-up after Wedeen, Cassell, Moore.

Yea, I don't think he'll be given the #1 spot. Would have to beat out someone like Sanchez or Geno Smith. I think the Jets are waiting to see if Fitz blinks and the Broncos are hoping Sanchez can show something in TC. If one struggles, then maybe Foles could be traded then.

The Rams have already taken the 6m roster bonus hit for Foles. He isn't getting cut. We would have to trade for him and take on a contract. Ain't gonna happen.

Thank you. Knew he had a big bonus, forgot if it was paid already or was going to be paid soon.
Yea, I guess since the Rams already paid it, they are in no rush to dump him unless he pulls a Bradford and becomes a distraction/crybaby.

They have a Number #1 draft pick and Case Keenum signed a first round tender. Foles will be cut IMO.

Foles blows. Too many are weighting the 2013 season when Kelly's offense was a new thing for the NFL. Look at Foles in 2014 and then in 2015.

He sucked. Big time. I'd rather have Weeden or Cassel back.

I'd rather have none of those scrubs.

If they were going to cut him they would have done it before having to pay him 6 m dollars. That is real money, not cap manuevering. If they are willing to just blow $6m, more power to them.

What are the rules as far as compensatory picks? If we claim somebody now those that offset any compensatory picks?

They were on the hook for that money regardless.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Foles is due to count $8.75 million against the 2016 salary cap. That includes a $6 million roster bonus that is guaranteed, $1 million of signing bonus proration and $1.75 million in base salary that becomes guaranteed on the fifth day of the new league year. If the Rams released Foles, they'd also have to accelerate the additional $1 million in signing bonus proration he's due in 2017 to this year's cap.

So even if the Rams released Foles before his base salary became guaranteed, it would still be a net hit of $8 million or they could declare him a post-June 1 cut to make it a hit of $7 million.

Didn't know the SB was guaranteed, but what would be the reason to pay him what they are and let him go for Keenum? Keenum hasn't really done anything in the league and is 28 years old. First round tender is 3.6m, which they would be able to regain all of if they cut him I believe. Foles, is a year younger, had a phenomenal year in 2013, went 6-2 as a starter in 2014 and is more along the lines of what the NFL looks for in QB's. Not sure why Keenum would be considered the better prospect. Keenum is on a one year deal, and the likelihood is that the Rams aren't going to resign him when they have a number one draft pick as their starter. Foles is paid for this year already, will be cut next year with big cap savings and the Rams supposedly like Mannion, the guy they used a 3rd rounder on last year and will be cheap and the likely backup next year. If either were waived, I doubt Dallas would put in a waiver claim for either due to their contracts.

I believe it was a few days ago the deadline passed so that teams could sign FA and it not count against the formula so at this point it's inconsequential.

Waiver claims will never count. Only free agents on expired contracts count.
