New fullback says Cowboys can do everything with DeMarco Murray that Bears do with Matt Forte
The Cowboys’ new fullback, Tyler Clutts, played in Chicago one year with Matt Forte. He said DeMarco Murray and Forte are a lot alike.

“He’s very similar to Matt’s style of running, to me. Very smooth, very fluid. Sees holes well,” Clutts said Thursday after his first practice with the Cowboys. “Matt can do a lot, but so can DeMarco. Matt’s got some speed where he can get to the edge. We do, too, here. We can do all that.”

It doesn't bode well for a bottom-roster guy when you're last name is 'cuts.' Oh, wait, clutz. That's not really any better.

I think this was a weird signing. My guess is that Demarco really prefers to run behind a fullback, and they went and got a guy who they think isn't a crushing blocker, but who can get out to the edge and who can at least block a little bit in space, with the idea being that Murray will now get the extra 5-6 plays/game that were going to go to Dunbar. Still, it's weird that we'd release our blocking TE who'd been in the system all season and replace him a week later with a journeyman DL convert FB project player going into the last month of the regular season.

With the "12" grouping on the wane, this is yet more evidence that its installation was not properly conceived, designed or implemented...for whatever reasons. 11 and S11 are seeing more action and the former (with Romo under center) might be Dallas' best running option, while spreading out opposing defenses.

So maybe the brain trust really is clueless? Wasn't this the same group who decided the FB was obsolete only few months ago?

Yeah, those sets haven't ended up being what we hoped for or expected. No doubt.

Sure is. But that was before they knew Tyler Clutts would become available.

I suspect it's not a coincidence that this guy played for the Bears. Good chance he's cut next week.

Edit, forget that, didn't realize he played for them a couple years ago. Still might not be long for the roster because of just what you said.

But then we've always changed philosophy at the drop of a hat. Remember the wildcat... 34 to 43... Faster quicker OL back to the maulers... Etc.

I wouldn't generalize it. It is only a late season injury replacement, but , yeah, it was a weird move in my book.

Realized their TE group wasn't as strong as they thought, or that the 12 personel doesn't fit this team as well as expected.

Doesn't seem like something that shocking to me, Idgit. You can see there are a number of reasons why the coaching staff may have just changed their minds about what they want to do.

Yeah, when we decided fullbacks were obsolete, The Terminator was sitting on his couch waiting for someone to call. Now he's with the Giants and we have Klutts.

I like this move. I've been wanting a bruising lead back. As for whether Cluttz is the right man for the job remains to be seen. I liked him over the other options they were considering.

I'm hoping he is Fiammetta part 2. A solid push at the goal line seems to be a concern of ours. Hopefully this improves our scoring inside the red zone.

If I'm not mistaken the Boys are #2 in red zone efficiency.

I don't really think this fullback thing is some kinda sign that they're giving up on anything they've been doing. It's more likely another attempt to add some wrinkles from week to week and maybe put in some plays for a specific team that has had trouble stopping the run lately and if your gonna add a fullback what better month to do it in?

Using the current weather projections for Chicago Monday night (7 degrees, winds 17mph), the online wind chill generator says it will feel like 11.45 degrees below zero.

It sounds like a good time to get a fullback out there to help out on some running plays. Passing could be challenging at times.
