Staggering D. Lawrence stat

In the first three games, I felt teams gave the defense trouble with misdirection (Rams), and quality passing games and stellar quarterbacks (Ryan, Wilson). Heading into the Browns game, I do not put Mayfield in the same league. I felt that gave the defense an advantage over the prior weeks. I had no idea that they would be so utterly pathetic against the run. So bad that third string running backs who were catching fish a few weeks ago are shredding them. That was a big wake-up call for me as to how bad this defense actually is.

They do NOTHING WELL, and many of the guys out there look like they're going through the motions and just don't care.
Which makes me wonder. Do they not like the scheme so they will just lay down until nolan is fired. If that’s true then I wonder if that happens on other teams or just ours because our Owner/GM won’t hold the players accountable.

I proof-read my own posts like DAk reads offenses.

I mean right before the 2022 season, though I’m not a cap expert. That also correlated with the Smith year, if they want to let them both walk.

Dlaw is a 1,000 time better football player than Jaylon so I would cut Jaylon this offseason first. You can’t have a MLB/WLB play in the NFL with zero natural instincts. It’s getting embarrassing

Yeah that's what I'm not getting. Lawrence and Jaylon are getting singled out but as a unit they all have sucked.
I'm not saying it's fair or not but I have a feeling most fans single them out because 1. There the 2 high dollar contracts on the defensive side and 2. they're the only two on the defensive side that run their mouths about how they're "alpha" and "hot boys" and "were pro bowlers"

They basically set themselves up to be easy targets. If you want the accolades and money you got to be able to take some heat (which both of them can't )

I agree.

Aldon Smith is another guy we need to be careful about.

He has started great but this technically is a contract year for him to get the big contract.

Which is what we have been doing..biting on contract year performance. Over paying for future performance that does not happen.

And we have to say it would seem is the defense does not have the ability to be flexible.

If Tank is struggling at LDE..then flip and move him to RDE or move him inside and rotate him around so the offense has to account for him.

It also moves some of the other guys around too.

But why not?

They all need to improve and be flexible.

If Tank still struggles then more will have to be addressed after the season..

My 2 cents.

Boy do I agree with ya.

He will ultimately emerge as the ultimate mistake contract even by this franchise's history of overpaying.
He sucks as a LDE and can't beat Right Tackles one on one consitently at 20 mil per.
Although like you said, maybe just move him around to RDE or do something to promote more production, he would struggle even more going up against the LTs because they are generally better blockers than team RTs and paid accordingly.

He also does not possess the D.Ware/Von Miller RDE "bend athletic ability" to get around the edge of those LTs either so there's that as well.

So I agree with ya, but unfortunately they are stuck. The next couple of year cap hits listed on Overthecap are ridiculous too.

Like 25, 27 and 29 mil per.

Let that sink in...

There are undeserved contracts and then there is Lawrence's. The Webster's Dictionary picture of undeserved.

What will be the funniest thing is when Lawrence finally does his best Reggie White impersonation this weekend and truly lights up the stat box this week against the worst NFL O line I've seen in years, , others will chastise me for my criticism.

Not to worry though, he'll return to his 20 mil per year average performance just as soon as this Giants game ends.

Go Cowboys

Yes, the entire group has been awful without exception.

But Lawrence and Jaylon are getting singled out because they've been paid. Therefore, people expect more out of them. People may think it's unfair, but that's how it goes when you make the money they make without the corresponding production.

But I actually expect Lawrence to have a good game Sunday. He wants to prove his doubters wrong and the Giants o-line is beyond awful.

So even a 4 sack performance by him Sunday will not change my opinion.

jerry did a wonderful job building the star. but he should have included another asthma field.

I can't believe that would be the case.

When you make much more money, the expectations are rightfully raised up as well. So when big money players play poorly and disappoint, it's twice as frustrating.

Wow.

This reminds me of the Nuclear Arms race of the 70s. We tried to bankrupt Russia by increasing the Nuclear stockpile knowing their economy could not keep up.

But the costs were astronomical for both sides so that all stop.

This paying blue sky contracts will end us as a team for sure.

The team with the coming cap shrinkage is going to have to get a lot meaner money-wise going forward.

I do not think fans in general really understand the reality coming.

DLaw hasn't been healthy or good but sack stats remain terrible as an indication of much.

DLaw is going pretty poorly and that's obvious but when he leaves the field we fall into the abyss where we allow 9 yards per carry.
It's as bad as anywhere in the league.

Watching teams run right at the SDE spot when Griffin is in the game will make your eyes water.
Aldon Smith didn't look that much better.

DLaw is both bad and your best DL by a good margin a this time.
There's no way to spin this. It's unacceptable how he's playing. That was a substantial contract given to him to be a difference-maker, a LT type of impact on a game. From his postgame comments about "worrying about myself", he also doesn't seem to understand the leadership that's required when you're given that type of money.

Yep. Exactly.
Pay for production principle. Whether a QB, DE, RB or any position.
My favorite anticipated responses to this are the market value and it's not my money advocates.

I guess in these trying times it really is asking too much of a man to actually earn what he's being paid to do. And that's regardless of the entire other team mate's performance.

I think Hoodie calls it basic Do Your Job. And Lawrence nor Smith are doing theirs at their current paycheck's level.

My opinion as always.

Go Cowboys

Get ready for the 'sacks don't matter!' comments that always make the rounds when our guys aren't getting them....
Sacks certainly matter but they aren’t everything
Dlaw is not living up to his contract but he has had some impact
Last I looked he lead the team in pressures
But with our defense we need sacks
We can’t cover or stop the run so to win we have to produce negative plays for their offense and only smith is producing many negative plays for our opponents
We need others to get there not just get close

In his last 11 games dating back to the 2019 season, DeMarcus Lawrence has ONLY 1/2 sack.....and in his last 20 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season Lawrence has ONLY 5.5 sacks.

In those 11 games Dallas has a record of 3 wins and 8 losses.

That is one hell of a dry spell and one hell of a bad correlation between sacks and wins.
he was a great investment...;)

The only person who overated him was Jerry. Dont think one logical person agreed with his contract.

I believe he does fairly well against the Giants though. He's dumb enough to make a sack then post about it on Twitter claiming how good he is.

Sacks got Lawrence the big payday that he received, and sacks are the expectation.

But I agree with your overall assessment. This defense needs sacks, not pressures, not close but no cigar, but get the quarterback on the ground sacks. Starting with the highest paid defensive player on the team.

Teams aren’t even doubling him anymore. In fact I saw multiple snaps Sunday where Hooper was blocking him solo

I literally laughed out loud. Sarcasm Master Risen would approve as well , lol

LOL. By the way, what is your cat with a dinner plate avatar. Is it a famous meme or something?

Yea, it exploded either this year or last year as a meme. Think the craze finally died down recently
