Stanback is the new Henson.

He's the shiny new toy that everybody wants to see, but somehow can't get on the field. Either the coaching staff is holding him back or he's a bust pick by the front office by Jerry & Co.

I sure hope not.

I also wouldn't go as far as saying there's any agenda in fans wanting to see a guy play, there's a reason we're fan's and not coaches, and it's not because we all have an over abundance of patience.

Or maybe they need a person in that reserve receiver spot that can play several special team positions and that there is no need for Stanback to learn these things on the fly, while Austin is doing a fine job. I mean that makes a little sense huh

the sad part is simply that *we* were told it could be awhile yet for some reason there's a sector of the "hear what i wanna hear" fanbase who missed all that so they have a bullet for their agenda gun.
It's a combination of constantly hearing good things about him and seeing (or rather not seeing) Sam Hurd every weekend.

Seriously, all Hurd is doing is taking up space on the field. He may be a fine special teamer, but it's hard to believe Stanback couldn't match his special teams contribution by also returning kicks (and playing on the coverage units).

Austin has not caught a pass this year, 1 kickoff return for 24 yards, and 6 Special Teams tackles.

Not bagging on him, but "fine job?" I want to see him return kicks instead of Thompson and I like him a lot, but let's not go overboard.

Wow, Hurd already burned through all the good will he had from the Buffalo game? That was quick.

For punching the ball? Yeah, that was spectacular.

That's why I say he's the new Henson. In 2004, there were numerous threads on folks wanting to see Henson play. "How will WE (fans) know he can play if WE (fans) don't see him?"

I think you missed my follow-up post about 2004.

Personally, I'm fine with not seeing Stanback on the field. If he's not a special teams demon, then I don't see where he can contribute. And considering his last position was quarterback, I just don't see him having that kamikaze fire required to be anyplace on ST than KR. We've got two guys ahead of him who are handling it.

I guess you would have rather he let it go and the Bills recovered it.

I think Hurd can play some WR, I just don't think he's quick enough for the slot or maybe he doesn't run great routes (or both). I certainly don't think Stanbach will be taking his job anytime soon. But at this point, I can all but promise you Hurd is a better special teamer and WR than Stanback is.

hurd is a good special teams player so it could be tough for stanback to get much time on the field. he was active for the bills game but did'nt get to play.learning to run routes is harder than some think. there is more to it than just knowing the route.
if he gets on the field this year thats great, if not he will have a year to learn the position and hopefully learn the return game.
i don't think we drafted him expecting him to offer much this year

Or perhaps YOU could note the "coming off foot injury", blurb right at the top of the piece you cite... ooooops, guess you didn't notice that, your AGENDA must have blinded you...

Yes, Stanback only ran a 4.58 at the combine-- on a BAD FOOT... a foot bad enough that he still wasn't ready to start practicing when training camp rolled around... but that couldn't POSSIBLY have caused him to run a slower time than he's really capable of running, could it??

No, I'm glad he made the play. It just wasn't some spectacular showing.

In all likelihood, it really is just a matter of time until Stanback takes his spot. I'd just rather it be sooner than later, because Hurd is wasting space.

Pretty sure he didn't even run at the combine due to the foot injury, SB... Maybe he just got measured and weighed and all that, but I don't think he did any drills. That 4.58 is in all likelihood totally fabricated. At best, it's a guess based off bad evidence.

So you think Hurd needs to go more than Miles Austin needs to go?

Romo. Move Cratyon to QB and let Hurd be the #2 and Stanback #3. ;)

EDIT: Speaking of. I want to see a Cratyon end-around option deep to Owens.
We are saving that play for Washington.

Here are Stanback's track history...

2006: ... has run track the last two springs, taking fifth in 100m at the 2006 Pac-10s ... best time in 100 is 10.48.

2005: ... ran track for UW in the spring ... placed fifth in the finals of the 100-meter dash at the Pac-10 Championships ... was sixth at the West Regional meet at BYU, missing an NCAA Championships berth by just .02 seconds ... ranks among UW's all-time top-10 in the 100-meter dash (10.48, 8th) and 4x100-meter relay (40.07, 7th) outdoors, and the 60-meter dash (6.80, 8th) indoors ... 100-meter best ranks third all-time among UW football players who have competed in track (Ja'Warren Hooker, 10.18; Sterling Hinds, 10.27).

Also, from what I read, Stanback DID NOT run due to injury during NFL Combine.

I'm not impressed with either one. I do think Hurd's physical limitations are going to prevent him from ever being a good WR. Austin, though physically gifted, just doesn't have good hands or control over his body. That can be corrected in time, but it's unlikely.

In training camp Stanback blew by Champ Baily for a bomb TD and you have to run faster then 4.58 in order to do that......or caugh Champ sleeping!

you think he doesn't know this? you think he's not been told/corrected a thousand time?

has it made any difference? will 1001 be the light bulb for him?

his only goal is to have someone talk to him online cause he's too much a loser for people to talk to him in person.

He can be told 1000 times but other people need to be told that he never even ran the 4.58. And he certainly didn't run it at the Combine, bad foot or not.

Hey, it would be inhospitable of me to deny him something he so desperately craves... :D
