Stanback's Shoulder Injury

here is what I think...he will get next year and that is all to prove he can play WR in this league....he is to brittle to play special teams...and when you are no higher than 4th on the depth chart at WR...you have to play special teams.

After watching the hit and fall that caused Stanback's injury and hearing Wade discuss the injury on Hard Knocks, I'm sorry to say that we may have seen the last of Stanback this year.

After hearing Wade discuss the injury last year I'm afraid we may not see Stanback until next year.

His injury is to the same shoulder as last year. As Eskimo said, once you have a dislocation you are at higher risk to have another. Some people have a joint that will dislocate easier than normal; much easier in another subgroup. His fall to the turf wasn't particularly traumatic. Most people wouldn't have dislocated their shoulder with that fall. Put that together with the same problem last year and you get the impression he's in that subgroup of people whose shoulder dislocates easily. Without examining him I'm speculating but its an educated guess.

My guess is he's going to need a surgery to try and tighten the joint. Ten years ago that surgery wasn't particularly sucessful. I'll have to ask some questions to find out where we are with that kind of surgery now.

I'd guess this year is over and it's not unlikely that his career as a football player may be over.

Hope I'm wrong.
We've really only gotten to see a couple of returns (including the fumble). If he's out another year, I say we let this project go and look elsewhere. He seems like he could be a big time contributor but if he can't stay healthy, better to recognize it early and move on. That said, I hope he's ok and CAN contribute asap.

In the context of this thread it was inappropriate but you knew that already.

The goat told me he was clean - I swear.

Why does it have to be a he goat? Can't it be a SHE goat? Not that there's anything wrong with that....;)

My guess is he may need one of the capsular shift type surgeries. It will decrease his shoulder mobility but should increase the stability to a great degree.

During the procedure, they can clean up whatever mess may have occurred with the dislocations.

I think the numbers are something along the lines of a 90% chance of recurrence without surgery in a young physically active male without surgery. And everytime you dislocate the shoulder there is another chance of further injury to the surrounding anatomy. He should have the surgery - it is his only real chance.
