nothing wrong with earning your way. you and your extremism sure gets old, holmes.

This from a guy who did nothing but stalk and spew bile at "gimmetheball" yesterday. Are you battling short-term memory loss, Ice?

Thats one way to lok at it i guess, but GTB goes out of his way to provoke such responses. You act in the manner you do just because you can.

That kind of sentimental hogwash belongs on a high school locker room wall. BTW, why was TO wearing the star in minicamp? He certainly hadn't earned it.

If it makes the rookes play harder and brings the team together is ti really that childish?

I saw no evidence of that in four years. This ticky-tack motivational stuff belongs in HS. Make that junior high.

and what "evidence" would you need to see?

but of course it could be switched around and asked if it takes that to motivate them are they than then even worth having around.

I really don't care either way...star or no star because in the end I doubt it will have had any significant impact.

I like the idea and hope it becomes a new tradition, I think all the players really liked the idea and it seemed to become a bit of a teamspirit thing with the vets helping the rookies to earn their star, not everything that looks devisive actually is. FA dont earn their stars because they have already played in the league in some capacity. There is a learning curve when you enter the NFL why not reflect that?

I think the rooks enjoy it...the water boy stuff too. Newman seemed to look back fondly on having to fetch water for Parcells. I cannot see Phillips doing that, but the blank helmet is something I think Jerry might keep around.

So... Jerry might keep it around...hmmmm... sounds like Wade has no say in it...

I thought it was a great idea and would like to see it continue.

Agree with this - I would lilke the star earned, not given. Like respect.

I think it's cool and would like to see it continue. But it may not mesh with Wade's "we're a family" ideal.

I'd be curious to think what some of the players thought about it. The ones who went thru it...and the ones who didn't.

As for those who think it's childish, well football is a game. And while I've never played it, I've seen too much behind the scenes footage of veteran players getting the rookies to do weird things throughout their first year.

I remember watching the Jags training camp...and how when Leftwich finally reported, they tied him up to the goal post and sprayed all kinds of crap on him. And then what about our o-line who shaved the rookie o-line's head during TC last year.

Basically, I just feel like the rookies have to do way more childish things than having to earn the star on their helmet.

Wade is going for the "family" concept, something like this would only discredit the very first words he said since go. The thing with "family" is you don't have to earn it, it just is.

The whole idea with Parcells was...cute...but I wouldn't write it up as much more than that. The players we get should want to be here, and as part of our family we will give them every opportunity and we will help them to suceed and stay here, because that's what family does. Family doesn't look down upon you and make judgements on whether you're good enough or not to be here, they support you no matter what and they help you along at every given point.

The incentive is wanting to stay and be part of what we're building, to be part of this family. And yknow whatelse, our two longest coaches also believed that, and coincidentally, those were the two and only men we won with.
