Start Osa and Hill?

I know it's a rotation and all the guys are going to play.. but from my eyes and from the numbers Hill and Osa were the only DTs who did anything on Sunday. Gallimore and Bohanna were completely invisible. Hill and Osa both had TFLs and QB hits. When the QB you're getting hits on is named Tom Brady one tends to take notice. Bohanna and Gallimore both had "assists." It will be interesting to see how the rotation evolves going forward because at this point it looks like Osa and Hill are our two best interior d-linemen. Osa played the most snaps (36) while Hill played the least (19.) Let's see what happens this Sunday.

Yeah I don't tout PFF when their grades agree with my assessment because I still maintain that the grading is done by a bunch of pimply faced nerds on speed watching the same game that we do with no more knowledge of a player's assignment than you or I have. Maybe less because some of us actually played the game while I would wager less than a third of PFF's nerds ever got anywhere near a football field except maybe to accept some award on award day or to walk across the stage during graduation if they had an outdoor one. I will eventually go back and watch the game but frankly I don't expect what I see to line up with their "grades" whatsoever.

This is your bias talking. He was solid in his limited snaps this past game. I'm sure there is a threshold for a guy like him.. maybe it's 30 snaps.. maybe it's 25.. beyond which he won't be effective. But he looked pretty good in this game.. Not great.. not future all pro.. but good. He was disruptive and made the olinemen account for him. As I said before he also should have drawn at least two holding calls.. but I knew coming in that they were NOT going to be calling any holdings against the guys tasked with keeping Grampa Brady upright.

I hear you. If I had his size, I would be creating havoc inside nonstop and make it so hard to stop me.

The thing about that size is it's tough to carry and move that much weight. His stamina has to be minimal.. especially if he's taking on two guys almost as big as he is on most plays.

my bias?! what bias?! i have nothing against the guy. he has flashed, and i hope he does great. i'm just concerned by how much he seems to eat grass.

Hill had two solo tackles one for loss and a QB knockdown in 19 snaps. He also should have drawn a rather obvious holding on one of Fournette's long runs because the center pretty much took his jersey completely off or I think Hill makes the tackle for a 2 yard gain. I will go back and rewatch the game at some point to confirm what I thought I saw but my stomach still has not recovered from that putrid performance by the offense.. Maybe I'll just FF through our offensive plays and try to just judge the defense.

Bet you if Zeke had ripped off that run and the same thing happened, that run would be called back due to holding.

Nice sarcasm to deflect and cover, but the truth is, it's very hard to fully understand the game unless you've been there and done that live on the field of play. You can study all the film and read all the books you want, it still won't substitute for the actual live game experience.

True, but this is where working on your strength, quickness and stamina can truly benefit a player like Bohanna.

Yes, he had a nice play where he held up a double team and dropped the RB for a 2 yard loss. It was a very good play.

He knocked down the QB, if memory serves, where he didn't have to do much.

I just saw a lot of the same from him, a lot of blocker magnet, flailing arms, hitting the ground diving with no hope of actually tackling. I am rough on him, admittedly, but I just don't see it with him.

Yes, he isn't a pass rusher and I am grading his game on being a nose. Having said that, he had at least a couple of effective rushes that I can remember.

Ya, PFF is all over the map. Maybe they can do OL well...seems a little off there as well. Everywhere else seems horrific and their grades create the story lines for the week on ESPN. i think this is really the story here.

I thought Bohanna did a pretty good job clogging the middle. He is not a penetrating type DT so he won't get stats. He was way better than he was last season.

When he was in there there was no running room in the middle. As I posted yesterday, 111 of Fornette's 127 yards were to the right side of the Cowboys defense. The problem was not the DTs (and it has been a long time since I felt this), it was the DEs who were getting pushed inside or they took inside moves. The lack of containment to the right side is what killed them in the running game. If you watched closely the Bucs TEs were blocking the Cowboys DEs. If your TEs can shove the DEs around, like the Bucs TEs were doing to the Cowboys DEs, then there will be room to run outside.

The Cowboys front office tried to sell us that Dorance Armstrong would be fine replacing Randy Gregory. Total nonsense. Gregory made his share of mistakes but he could fight off TE blocks at least.

I think it has been said many times but the Cowboys losing players was not the problem with the offseason. That happens to every team. The problem is Jerry did not sign adequate replacements. He tried to convince us that signed Dante Fowler, who played only 10 snaps, would make up for losing Gregory and that James Washington or someone would make up for losing Amari Cooper. None of his replacements are as good as the players they lost. Thsi is why it was foolish to think the Cowboys would be as good as or better than last year.

Funny crapp. People have decided they hate Hill, so no matter what, they will say he did poorly. I have no idea what's it's like to be that way, to completely rely on one's preconceived notions to evaluate a player's performance.

Yeah it's a really weird deal. I can't recall ever wanted to hate a player on my own team. Hell I even rooted for T.O. when he was wearing the Star all the while knowing what an absolute jerk he was off the field. I was even upset when they released him... well for maybe 10-15 seconds anyway..

Yeah the Bucs gained 90% of their yardage off tackle left and around left end. Dorance Armstrong got owned. Fowler only played 10 snaps and Sam Williams 6. Gholston played 15 but I would have to go watch where he lined up. I will defend our DTs to some extent because I saw a TON of blatant holds against them that the refs simply refused to call. The one where the center undressed Hill made me throw stuff at the TV. I mean damn.. But I had already accepted that they were not going to call a lot of holdings against the guys protecting Tom Brady unless it was particularly egregious. But they amended that directive to "thou shalt not call any holdings against the guys protecting Tom Brady no matter what." If that trend continues all season teams are going to run us out of the stadium.
