First off, put down your Stealer hanky.

What was the score of that game at halftime? 21-14. What was the score after 3 quarters? 21-17. The 3 biggest plays in that game had nothing to do with the Stealers being better than us, they were 1) atrocious PI call, giving the Stealers a 1st down when they would have had to punt, and then eventually a TD 2) Landry having a guy with a broken hand out on the kick team, which led to a fumble and a Stealer TD and 3) a HOF TE inexplicably dropping an easy gimmee TD with nobody near him in the endzone. Now what plays did the Stealers make there?

We all have our opinions, mine is the 78 Cowboys were a better team than the Stealers that yr. If we had played them 10 times, we'd have won 6 or 7 of them.

The best teams dont always win the Super Bowl, and 1978 was an example of that.

I think that the 78 Cowboys squad was the best overall team they ever put on the field, with all due respect to the 1992,1977,1971 and 1993 squads. The talent on that 78 team was awesome, just look at the reserves they had-Danny White,Preston Pearson,Butch Johnson,Larry Cole,Mike Hegman,Randy Hughes,Dennis Thurman,Jim Cooper,Jay Saldi-all would have been starters on any other team back then.Staubach had a great year in 78 with the new passing rules implemented, evidenced by the big years from Tony Hill,Drew Pearson,Billy Joe DuPree and Preston Pearson. The running game with Tony Dorsett,Robert Newhouse and Scott Laidlaw was very productive, and once the team stopped turning the ball over about halfway through the season, they were basically unstoppable.

The defense on that 78 team was one of the best in Cowboys history, giving up only 13 points a game, with a fierce pass rush from Randy White,Harvey Martin and Ed Jones, very tough to run against, and having great leadership from Charlie Waters and Cliff Harris in the secondary.

I respect the Steeler team that the Cowboys lost to in SB XIII,but they got every break you could imagine in the 3rd quarter of that game, and could not stop the Cowboys late in that game when Roger made that great comeback against the fine Pittsburgh defense. The Steelers were hanging on by a thread in the latter part of the 4th quarter, and I always wondered what would have happened had Dallas recovered the last onside kick there with about 20 seconds to go and 50 yards to go.Would have been a dramatic ending for sure.

SB XIII to me is the toughest loss in Dallas history, narrowly beating out the 94 and 81 losses to SF,and the Ice Bowl loss to GB

Not having Too Tall in 78 to me was a bigger loss then many realized.

Dutton was very good at DE but Too Tall was unique in what he forced QBs to do.

As regards the SB, the Steelers got every possible break in the second half of that game. If the breaks had even out we would have won. They were NOT the better team. They were the LUCKIER team.

Roger is such a class guy that he tried taking the blame for Smiths drop putting it on the throw but the ball was there and Smith a Hall Of Fame player should have caught it. That play wasn't the main reason the Cowboys lost that game but the momentum clearly shifted and the game started slipping away after that play. That pass would have tied the game 24 all and having to settle for a FG really deflated the Cowboys. I honestly think the bogus PI call on Benny Barnes was the play that really did in the Cowboys in that SB. Swann was slipping down and elbowed Barnes on the play. The Cowboys stopped the Steelers on third down and the call ended up being a 33 yard penalty that gave Pittsburgh a first down. Franco Harris then proceeded to bust one right up the middle for a 22 yard TD. Years later the NFL admitted they botched that call. Regardless everyone will always remember Super Bowl XIII for Smiths drop. It's amazing a player could have a HOF career and be remembered for only one play but that's the kind of impact the Super Bowl has. Here's the painful memory of that play and the class Staubach showed defending Smith.

Poor guy. I have always felt bad for him cause he's probably hated by so many.

Roger is classy as can be taking the blame for that play. That's what I like to see out of the leader of your team.

I've always believed that as well.

Maybe...but we weren't on that day.

I know people will talk about the bad PI call, which obviously it was, but here are the facts. If we were better than them that day then the PI wouldn't have mattered. We'd have found a way to stop them from scoring a TD there. Dallas didn't get that done. All the fans may want to believe they were better that day but clearly they weren't.

It sucks. I hate the fact that Dallas lost those Superbowls but the facts are they lost them. Bad PI call or not if you're the best team, truly the best team, that year then you find a way to win it anyway.

Dallas unfortunately wasn't able to do that so they weren't better that day.

Too Tall was a Cowboy in 1978. He retired for one year and returned in 1980.

That's true. We weren't. But as someone else metioned, the better team doesn't always win that one final game, and championship history is full of examples.

All I'm saying is that I believe the Cowboys would beat the Steelers if the championship was decided with multiple games instead of just one game. Just my opinion, though.

Is this letter from Rozelle widely know about among Cowboy fans and I somehow missed it? Because that Benny Barnes PI calls is one of the worst calls in NFL big-game history, and I'd somehow never seen this.

Don't worry I'm not carrying a terrible towel I'm just an objective Cowboys fan who calls it like he sees it no matter how many feathers I ruffle from those who are bias....

How adorable are you that this is the way you see yourself? I want to pinch your cheeks.
