yeah, the multiplier between now and 1978 is 5XYou shouldn’t, $7 mil today was $1.5 mil in 1978. Roger was making $160,000

$160,000 in 1979 is worth less than a million today. I didn’t come up with that off the top of my head. But it does seem low to be honest.yeah, the multiplier between now and 1978 is 5X
Did you know that Hollywood won the lottery... TWICE!Hollywood Henderson,
Roger is Captain America
Exactly.Majestic Rey was using public school math. You shouldn’t, $7 mil today was $1.5 mil in 1978. Roger was making $160,000
Yep. The luckiest man in Texas.Did you know that Hollywood won the lottery... TWICE!
Just stating facts. The league didn’t make great money but they paid out far less of the revue they did get in those days. Players salaries today are a pct of revenue which is a much fairer way to pay the players since they produce the product the league sells. By the way your math is wrongAre we supposed to be impressed or thankful? Should I feel sorry that top players like Roger were making 7 million a year (adjusted for inflation) instead of 60 million for above average ones like Dak?
But also, a million dollar home today was about $200,000 back then. McDonald’s had 0.19 hamburgers and 0.29 cheeseburgers.Adjusted for inflation, Staubach peaked at about 7.3 million per year in 1979. We all know that today's NFL salaries are absurd, but this puts it into perspective. One of the greatest QB's in NFL history made about what a good kicker makes today.
as was pointed out, inflation was a 5X multiplier so Roger actually made $800,000 in todays dollars compared to his actual 1978 salary of $160,000But also, a million dollar home today was about $200,000 back then. McDonald’s had 0.19 hamburgers and 0.29 cheeseburgers.
A $7.3million annual salary in 1979 is equivalent to approximately $35 million in today’s (2026) dollars when adjusted for inflation using the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI).
It's the kind of stuff Jerry talks about. Fame and fortune after football. Today's players are to egotistical to ever admit that though.Name identity had to help him on his business ventures, but this brother would have been a highly successful entrepreneur even without it.
The land of opportunity.
Not always. It depends on the economic system.as was pointed out, inflation was a 5X multiplier so Roger actually made $800,000 in todays dollars compared to his actual 1978 salary of $160,000
and as you pointed out, nineteen cent hamburgers versus ten times that much now
so prices always rise faster than wages
All that said, he was still a bargainas was pointed out, inflation was a 5X multiplier so Roger actually made $800,000 in todays dollars compared to his actual 1978 salary of $160,000

Some people in all walks of life look no further than the next day, even when they get beyond young adults. It's the kind of stuff Jerry talks about. Fame and fortune after football. Today's players are to egotistical to ever admit that though.
My bad, I went off what someone else said lol. Either way, it’s a huge discrepancy between what top players made then vs what above average ones make now - my statement still stands for that.I'm not buying that at all.
Not even close. Lolololololspoken like a man that has hit that goal.
I get that they’re the product, but still. Way overvalued.Just stating facts. The league didn’t make great money but they paid out far less of the revue they did get in those days. Well they get a pct of what the league makes. That money is going to owners who are billionares or players who are millionaires. Seems logical to me the players gets share of the revenue because the owners are not giving to fans. It’s going in players pockets or owners pocket.I get that they’re the product, but still. Way overvalued.
