Steelers Do What Cowboys Fear

Change or at least adjustment. Change is scary because it's fear of the unknown. While I applaud the off season moves which took courage, this is an example of different in-season philosophies and approaches by two organizations. One has won 2 Super Bowls in the same time frame that one hasn't won a playoff game.

"We're fine" won't cut it in Pittsburgh. Accountability does.

"We can't stay status quo in terms of how we're approaching this and expect the pattern of behavior or outcome to change," Tomlin said. "That's unrealistic. That's hoping. This is not a hope business."

Losing three leads in the fourth quarter against the lowly Raiders (4-8) made Tomlin lose that, and a lot more.

Tomlin was as close to agitated as he gets in public on Monday, suggesting longevity and loyalty don't count for nearly as much when a team is losing like the Steelers are. Changes are coming.

"Nothing stays the same in this game," Tomlin said. "Players are ascending, players are descending. People catch up with schemes, schemes evolve. Playing and coaching, this thing is ever-changing."

I'm not advocating large scale changes in a playoff stretch or change for the sake of change, but how's this for just three suggestions.

Starting Choice? Changing holders? Getting Butler and Ogletree more reps?

Just sayin'.

Bingo...

I think too many people are impressed with media soundbites rather than on-field results.

Andy Reid is one of the most non-athletic men on the sidelines and his media sessions are good for putting babies to sleep. However, his coaching results are pretty stellar.

Placeholding is much more than having the laces out. It's got to be in the correct spot, with the correct lean of the ball, etc.

Imagine playing golf and teeing up a tee shot and somebody moving the teed ball a few inches further away from where you had it during your swing. You'd likely hit it bad.

I have no idea if it's bad holding on all of the bad misses, although McBriar has gone on record at least twice sayin that he made a bad hold on a missed kick. And we never had this problem before when Brad Johnson was doing the placeholding. We really should've tried to get Kitna and/or Beuhler involved in placeholding as well. We do need a guy like McBriar to do placeholding because it's tough to have a guy that only does punting. But he's clearly not doing a good job with the placeholding.

Not to sound like Wade here but we are 8-4, I'm sure many teams would love to "suck" like we do right now. Believe it or not, we control our own destiny unlike a majority of teams in the NFL.

We've got some tough games coming up and with our hsitory I can see where one would be less than optimistic about the way it will play out, but to say we suck is downright untrue.

It does show how great of a player Polamalu is. 2-5 when w/o a safety is something I thought wasn't possible. It does show that if Dallas can pick up an impact player at safety instead of going the cheap route this defense can be electric.

I don't know how much they'll change in Pittsburgh right now but I'll admit that I'm a fan of Tomlin. I think he's a bit over-rated due to the fact that he inherited such a talented team but there is something to be said for inheriting a team like that and not messing it up. He's managed to do pretty well with them, even though this year isn't going all that great for them.

I'd rather be 6-6 right now knowing my team was going to play their harts out for the last 4 games then 8-4 and going trough the motions with Wade
