Steelers | Roethlisberger OUT for Week 1

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher said QB Ben Roethlisberger (appendix) underwent an emergency appendectomy Sunday, Sept. 3. The surgery went well, but he will be out for Week 1 and will be on a week-to-week basis. The team is looking to bring in another quarterback and QB Charlie Batch will start Week 1.

The steelers arent the type of organization to trade away picks ond overeact but Billy Volek will be available.

The thing is though He wouldnt be ready to play this week, so maybe it is a stupid idea.

I wouldn't say they're "panicking" yet. This is a relatively common procedure, and the typical recovery time is 2-4 weeks.

Yeah it could... or it could be nothing. They could be on their way to a repeat of the 15-1 from two years ago... you never know, but I doubt they're "panicking."

Their first three games are Miami, @ Jacksonville, and Cincinnati. Three tough games, if they can pull one out with Batch then I bet they'll be fine. They have a Bye Week 4, so expect Roethlisberger back Week 5 at the latest.

yeah that is why in my next post I said they are not an organization that overeacts.

No reason to push the panic button. Last year he missed some games and Batch started in his place.

However I will say their schedule is home vs. Miami, at Jacksonville and home vs. Cincy to start the season and those won't be easy without Big Ben.
