I think he's likely being suspended with pay. ESPN wants to take him off the air for a while and let things cool down.

I have a hard time suspending him over this because his comments made virtually no sense to the point that they were practically gibberish.

And Michelle Beadle has little room to talk considering she criticized Erin Andrews over the hidden video of her naked in her hotel room. She was about as insensitive and as ignorant as it got when it came to Andrews and she seemed to act that way purely out of jealousy.

I don't like Smith's act and from what I could make out of his comments he just came off like an idiot. But, I think that if these victim's advocacy groups really want to be effective in helping bring awareness and preventing crimes like Ray Rice's; they would be better trying to educate people like Smith instead of shunning them.

It's ironic that he actually has a point in his comments that got him suspended.

As much as he tried to obscure what he said, I found his comments to be perfectly clear.

He was suspended precisely because he had a point and because he made it. It just happened to be a really ignorant point.

There's NEVER justification for a man to hit a woman. But some women bring it on themselves with their *****y, the world evolves around me attitude.

He makes a lot of ignorant points. And doesn't get suspended for them.

I just couldn't understand what he was saying, particularly when I looked at the transcript. A woman shouldn't provoke a man because the woman's relatives may get justice, but that doesn't take back what happened to the woman?

The point it is a womans fault if she gets hit? She shouldn't put herself in that position making it her fault? Yeah I highly disagree.

Good. I'm glad he's suspended for this. What he said amounts to blaming the victim for domestic abuse. Yes, we all should take precautions not to provoke people for all kinds of misbehavior, but no one blames the victim of car theft for leaving his keys in the car.

I wish he had been fired for it.

apparently what you say or think must meet to the fascistic left's standards. Smith clearly stated that losing your composure and striking a woman is unacceptable and then continued to make another sound statement, you should never antagonize someone to the point that they would want to punch you. Welcome to the new world.

I fail to see what "left standards" have to do with this, and if I had to bet on it, I would put my money on Steven A. being a lefty himself. I agree that one should not "antagonize someone to the point that they would want to punch you" but that doesn't excuse them for acting on it.

With a little honest reflection about exactly what Smith said, what I said, and what you said I believe you'll find the answer to your question and realize what's being done to him and to all of us. The sheep are all lining up to condemn the man even though what he said is entirely logical and reasonable.

I had no issues with his statement at all. People get too up in arms about certain subjects in society. Who cares what his opinion is. It's his. But ESPN felt pressure to act like they really have a conscience and care what he says so they suspended him. And probably pressure from advertisers. With pay most likely. Just to hide him from the airwaves until the news cycle passes this story over and we move on to whatever happens in the week of his absence.

I don't watch First Take anyways so I won't even notice.

This is exactly what he was saying, but people only want to hear what they want to hear. I see nothing wrong with what he said, and I don't even like SAS much at all.

If I'm understanding him correctly (and I might not be), he's basically saying "two wrongs don't make a right" and the first wrong is still wrong.

I have no problem with that.

If he had said that provoking a person with insults was just as bad as striking the person, I would disagree but I didn't hear him say that.

And I don't like the guy.

he is a tool, a worthless tool, but he probably did not mean it the way he said it. He is a real fool and nowhere near as smart as he (and some here) think he is so it is no surprise that he messed it up.
