Listening to the Cowboys presser today, Stephen Jones was asked about the Cowboys offense line.

I may be reading too much into his comments but he stated that we feel better about where the offensive line is this year and Fleming upgraded their top 5 guys over what they had last season. He said they are fortunate the Collins is versatile and can be a great player at LG or RT.

Why say our top 5 guys, if they are looking to find a sure fire LG in the draft?

Sounds to me like Collins is moving to LG, Fleming is the starting RT and they will look at drafting a G or T in the draft but maybe not necessarily a starter. Feels like they may lean towards finding T to compete with Fleming in my opinion.

I think we can rule out Hernandez or Wynn in round one and they will take the best T or G some where in rounds 2 to 4.

Fleming started 20 games in 7 seasons. He's not going to start for the Cowboys unless catastrophe strikes.

If it gets the best five out there why do you care?

Because we will screw around the entire offseason with different combos trying to find that best 5. They probably won’t make a decision until about 48 hours before the opener. The line needs stability, not a constant shuffling of the deck. I freaking hate position flex

I don't think there is any way we draft an OL in the first round. If Hernandez were to fall to the 50 spot I would bet my house they take him. There will be somebody there at 50 and there will still be somebody there at 81 that can improve the OL.

My take is he's saying Fleming is an upgrade over our 5th best OL starter (Cooper ) from last year. That's why he followed up with the statement about Collins versatility. From what I can tell it seems they would rather draft a T ( probably flex who can play L or R ), a mid-round one whose not quite ready to start. But all indications to me Collins is moving back to G.

Position flex is for injuries. I know it's not popular but I would move Collins back to guard we we have a known product. See if Fleming can man the RT position. We had Free there for years and everyone said he was a JAG so let's see what he can do. It's easier to help protect the outside than the interior and still be in play for out routes.

Actually no, that's probably not remotely the idea. My guess is they wait until mini camps after the draft and see what they have. By time TC rolls around, the decision will be made. The only time they've messed around with the OL like that was due to injuries.

Either way, if the best five are out there, there's really nothing any of us can complain about. If they decide to use the early portion of the season to solidify the OL, this team has more than enough talent to overcome it.

So much hyperbole.

What worries me is that evidently the rest of the NFL didn't think Flemming is a starter but the Cowboys do. I say draft a guard in the 2nd or 3rd and give them every chance to start. Collins to G should be worst case/last resort in my opinion.

I’m sorry....FLEMING
The only NFL player I can remember with my last name and 75% of the people spell it wrong

Fleming is part of the best 5 as of today, but hopefully that all changes by Monday.

What's the know product, though? He played guard about as well as he played RT. We need to quit hampering with his development and let him develop.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Remember when Chaz Green was going to be the starting left guard?

Yeah, good times...

That "best 5 guys" line was dropped then too.

Nice to see that they've learned absolutely nothing.
