Stephen Comments on Oline

And yet somehow multiple teams seem to make it work at OL with far less investments.

Teams "make it work" at every position on the field. That statement isn't proof of anything one way or another.

Because it involves more moves, sets Collins back in his development and means we don’t have a swing tackle, unless you consider green

That's the biggest reason "why not" for me.

Because you set yourself up to be in the exact same position that helped destroy your 2017 season. The total lack of a backup tackle.

So, essentially, you've failed to learn the biggest lesson that 2017 showed you. That this entire team - quarterback, running back, receivers, offense, defense, special teams - everything - goes as the offensive line goes.

When they're not working, you're getting blown out to the tune of 42-17.

Seems par for the course with the team the last few years. They can roll out a great starting five week 1 with what they have, which keeps them from having to reach in the draft. Doesn't mean they will not draft an O-lineman at all.

Should Stephen Jones have just admitted to the world that the team wants to select a LG?

The coaches and front office do like to chirp about putting the best five OL on the field together, and moving La'el Collins back to LG is a possibility, but I doubt it's what they want.

Cameron Fleming is on a one year deal, is it ideal to push for him to start at RT and shift Collins inside again?

If Fleming starts at RT, the team has done nada about the swing tackle, which is a huge problem.

Chaz Green has talent, an injury history, his confidence may be shot, he's entering the last year of his contract, and I have no idea if he'll be on the roster for the opener against Carolina.

I do believe Collins has more potential at LG than RT, but I just don't see the team moving him again unless absolutely necessary.

Let him continue to grow at RT, draft a LG and let him compete, and move along.

OL
1. LT Tyron Smith
2. LG Marcus Martin vs Rookie draftee
3. C Travis Frederick
4. RG Zack Martin
5. RT La'el Collins

6. ST Cameron Fleming
7. C/G Joe Looney
8. loser of LG competition
9. OT Chaz Green

I don't think there is any way we draft an OL in the first round. If Hernandez were to fall to the 50 spot I would bet my house they take him. There will be somebody there at 50 and there will still be somebody there at 81 that can improve the OL.

We NEED that big DT! We have the rest of the DL in place (if they don’t get suspended).

Only difference would be they could always flex Collins outside in a pinch if they had to. Though not ideal.

Austin Corbett is the name to keep an eye on. Versatile guard/tackle.

I like Corbett but hope he's not the only guy on their radar. This is a decent to good draft for OL. Some other later round talent:

Joseph Noteboom
Colby Gossett
Will Richardson
Alex Kappa
Wyatt Teller
Skyler Phillips
Desmond Harrison
Korey Cunningham
Beau Nunn
Matt Gono

without a trade back, i think Corbett has the best chance of being our pick and solution at LG early. I think they want him at 81 tho. If he goes before that i think Cole Madison is next on the radar with one our 4th round picks.

Did Dallas meet with Cole Madison?

I may be reading too much into his comments but he stated that we feel better about where the offensive line is this year and Fleming upgraded their top 5 guys over what they had last season. He said they are fortunate the Collins is versatile and can be a great player at LG or RT.
...
Sounds to me like Collins is moving to LG, Fleming is the starting RT

Ugh! Sounds that way to me too. We improve at LG to get weaker and w/o a future at RT.

Did they learn nothing from the Chaz Fiasco last year? Stop jerking young players around from position to position.

Yep. He was one of our 30 visits. Cowboys wire has the list of visits, dallas day guys, private workouts along with combine and senior bowl interests.

Listening to the Cowboys presser today, Stephen Jones was asked about the Cowboys offense line.

Why say our top 5 guys, if they are looking to find a sure fire LG in the draft?

Sounds to me like Collins is moving to LG, Fleming is the starting RT and they will look at drafting a G or T in the draft but maybe not necessarily a starter. Feels like they may lean towards finding T to compete with Fleming in my opinion.

I think we can rule out Hernandez or Wynn in round one and they will take the best T or G some where in rounds 2 to 4.
I didn't get that at all. He talked about Fleming as the swing which means Collins stays and we draft a LG.

Sounds like you haven't done many mock drafts this year...If you don't get a guy in the 1st or early 2nd...your pretty much screwed in finding a walk in starter.

Why would I do a mock draft? There are a thousand on this website and they are all wrong.

I would be ecstatic if we could get Hernandez but he will go somewhere between 19 and 50 so we will have to look elsewhere.
