This gave me a good chuckle.

Jones_Stephen.jpg

With 19 years of NFL experience, Stephen Jones has established himself as one of the brightest and most versatile young executives in professional sports. Recognized as Owner Jerry Jones's right-hand man, Stephen is currently the Cowboys Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President, and Director of Player Personnel as well as President of AT&T Stadium.

Jones was the key negotiator in the work that brought All-Pro wide receiver Terrell Owens to the Cowboys in March of 2006. He also took the lead in negotiating the contracts for other recent free agents such as offensive linemen Leonard Davis and Kyle Kosier and safety Ken Hamlin.

Over a one week span in the spring of 2005, Jones was instrumental in the distribution of $30 million in signing bonus money to quarterback Drew Bledsoe, defensive tackle Jason Ferguson, cornerback Anthony Henry and guard Marco Rivera. The signing of Ferguson, Henry and Rivera all took place in one day, March 3, the biggest signing day in club history.

I'll be fair. To me Stephen cannot possibly be as bad in his football duties as Jerry.

He's got 30 more years to prove otherwise

I was thinking about this the other day, do any of you think he will be as hands on with the organization when he officially takes over the team when Jerry passes away. I hope not but a big part of me thinks he will be.

when i say hands on i mean he pretty much becomes the second coming of Jerry . Makes himself GM and so on.

Exactly right.

What does his length of tenure have to do with anything? That only means something when you've earned the gig and have had to perform to keep it.

Stephen Jones is a fraud. Just like dear old dad.

To be fair, he hasn't done anything to show that he is or isn't a capable owner. To call him the next bright mind is speculation and wrong and to call him a fraud is speculation and wrong. He doesn't have the keys.

I should be fair.

Let's say Jerry is gone tomorrow. If Stephen goes right out and hires a qualified GM, then I'll know he was merely being controlled by Jerry. That he does have a brain and we are in good hands with him.

I just don't think that's going to happen, gang. I believe he's been groomed as the successor. He'll point to all his years of experience as qualification for it. But when you've done nothing prior to get the gig and don't have to do anything positive to keep it, what the heck does his experience mean? Congrats for being his son and continuing to breathe, Stevey. We're all impressed.

I would partly agree. You're right, we can't definitively say what he would do as an owner, but I think we can call him a fraud. He's running our personnel department. He has no qualifications for it and a track record at the gig that should have gotten him fired 5 times over.

I would argue that he really doesnt have 19 years of experience.
I think he has one year of experience, 19 times.

Hmm, that's a good point. I'm not really sure how involved he is with the team as far as personnel goes, but if he's running it, he certainly hasn't done himself any favors that's for sure.

Well Steven does have a body of work and a philosophy he makes public again and again through either his words or his actions.

He does have a few of those keys and he uses them.

He's the Director of Player Personnel.

Nepotism. Another question...if Stephen was born to someone else, would he hold any position in the NFL? I can say no with absolute certainty. Lets hope he learns what not to do under Jerry.

I fixed the opening paragraph...see below.

With 19 years of NFL experience, Stephen Jones has established himself as one of the brightest and most versatile young executives in professional sports. With a bottle of secret sauce in each hip pocket, he is recognized as Owner Jerry Jones's right-hand man. Stephen is currently the Cowboys Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President, official bottler of the Secret Sauce and Director of Player Personnel as well as President of AT&T Stadium.

I would say he wouldn't. Our top 2 personnel slots in our football operations are filled with guys who couldn't work as an assistant regional scout for any other team.

I wonder why we don't win anymore? It's like we're jinxed.

The tide has turned on Stephen. It was only a few years ago that he was everyone's savior in waiting. Now people are ready to flush him right along with Jerry.

I'd like to think I had a hand in that. If not, humor me.

As an aside, I think I have enough likes to get what I want. If somebody could point me in the direction of the CowboysZone gift shop.

Jerry Jones didn't get rich by being dumb. Surely he will include some sort of "no GM" clause that transfers to the next man in charge in his final will. This man can destroy our hopes long after he's gone.
