I actually can't believe they have that up there.

TO, Leonard Davis, Marco Rivera, Ken Hamlin.

Goodness, that's like listing all your worst qualities on a dating website. "Selfish, overweight, physically incapable, and stupid".

Exactly right.

What does his length of tenure have to do with anything? That only means something when you've earned the gig and have had to perform to keep it.

Stephen Jones is a fraud. Just like dear old dad.

So I guess you have your doubts about him being a football man.

I should be fair.

Let's say Jerry is gone tomorrow. If Stephen goes right out and hires a qualified GM, then I'll know he was merely being controlled by Jerry. That he does have a brain and we are in good hands with him.

I just don't think that's going to happen, gang. I believe he's been groomed as the successor. He'll point to all his years of experience as qualification for it. But when you've done nothing prior to get the gig and don't have to do anything positive to keep it, what the heck does his experience mean? Congrats for being his son and continuing to breathe, Stevey. We're all impressed.

The minute he began having his own radio show like dear old dad confirmed that we are in for more of the same with Stephen in charge.

It's unreal. The guy was a chemical engineering major. Has no chops when it comes to personnel. Hell, they fired John Wooten and Bob Ackles to put him in that position.

No strategy and no clue from the top on down. But, Stephen can mix plastic and his dad can apply it to his face.

Oh joy.

My Daddy owns the team and Momma would divorce him if he didn't give me a job.

Here's the strange thing and something I cant grasp when it comes to Jerry. So, he has an ego. He wants to be liked. He wants people to admire the work he does. Etc Etc. If he would just step aside and be an owner (along with his son) and put a football guy in charge- fans would love him. The Jones boys could do the marketing, promotions, financial stuff (not contracts) and run the operations. Just leaving any football decisions to the guy he puts in charge.

If he did this, the fans would love him. They would admire him as an owner. He would be looked at as one of the best owners in pro sports. He could still make his late-game visit to the sideline. He would be looked up to as a great owner and certainly a plus to the organization. All he has to do is keep the Jones family away from football decisions. And he'd be a hero in the sports world.

I never, never understood the "I can't wait until Stephen takes over the team" mentality. The man learned everything he knows about football from one of the worst GM/Personnel men in the history of sports, his father. How can he possibly be expected to be any better?

This thread got me reading an older article, just thought I'd post it here as it reveals the poor decision making by the GM and Dir Player Personnel, on down the line...

Dallas Cowboys ignore OL and DL needs in signing 15 undrafted free agents

IRVING – Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Saturday night after the NFL draft that games are won up front on the offensive and defensive lines.

However, that isn’t evident by the Cowboys’ undrafted free agent signing class this year.

The Cowboys have agreed to terms with 15 undrafted free agents, but none of them play offensive or defensive line.

Two of the Cowboys’ three perceived needs this off-season were offensive and defensive line. They didn’t have the salary cap space to sign one before the draft.

The Cowboys used their first-round pick to draft Wisconsin center Travis Frederick No. 31 overall Thursday night. Frederick, however, was the only offensive lineman the Cowboys drafted, and they didn’t use a pick on a defensive lineman.

The Cowboys’ 15 undrafted free agents will join the club’s seven draft picks May 10-12 for a rookie mini-camp at Valley Ranch.

The Cowboys were happy to sign two free agents who went undrafted whom were among the 28 players they brought in for pre-draft visits to Valley Ranch: Arizona State outside linebacker Brandon Magee and South Carolina State safety Jakar Hamilton.

Hamilton transferred to South Carolina State from Georgia to clean up some academic issues and played in only eight games.

Magee had 113 tackles and 6½ sacks last year at Arizona State after missing the 2011 season with a torn Achilles tendon.

The Red Sox selected Magee in the 23rd round of last year’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and he signed with Boston last July. It was the third time that Magee, who played three seasons as an outfielder for Arizona State, had been drafted by an MLB team (he was selected by Tampa Bay in the 29th round in 2008 and by Oakland in the 21st round in 2011).

The Cowboys also signed two undrafted players from in-state colleges in SMU inside linebacker Taylor Reed and Texas A&M cornerback Dustin Harris and three undrafted players with North Texas high school ties in Missouri running back Kendial Lawrence (Rockwall-Heath), Wisconsin cornerback Devin Smith (Coppell) and Akron quarterback Dalton Williams (Coppell).

Harris led the nation in punt return average as a junior (18.6 yards per return). He averaged 12.7 yards per punt return as a senior.

Williams played his first three seasons at Stephen F. Austin as the Lumberjacks’ backup quarterback before transferring to Akron for his last year of eligibility. Last season at Akron, Williams completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 3,387 yards and 25 touchdowns with 16 interceptions.

The Cowboys have agreed to terms with 15 undrafted free agents. Here’s a list of the 15 players:

Player; Pos.; College; Ht.; Wt.

Spencer Benton; K/P; Clemson; 6-1; 195

Xavier Brewer; CB; Clemson; 5-11; 190

Paul Freedman; TE; Virginia; 6-6; 255

Jakar Hamilton; FS; South Carolina State; 5-11; 186

Dustin Harris; CB; Texas A&M; 6-0; 175

Jeff Heath; SS; Saginaw Valley State; 6-1; 209

Greg Herd; WR; Eastern Washington; 6-3; 200

Deon Lacey; OLB; West Alabama; 6-2; 229

Cameron Lawrence; OLB; Mississippi State; 6-2; 239

Kendial Lawrence; RB; Missouri; 5-9; 194

Brandon Magee; OLB; Arizona State; 5-11; 223

Taylor Reed; ILB; SMU; 5-11; 240

Eric Rogers; WR; Cal Lutheran; 6-3; 206

Devin Smith; CB; Wisconsin; 5-11; 182

Dalton Williams; QB; Akron; 6-4; 217

Jerry Jones didn't get rich by being dumb. Surely he will include some sort of "no GM" clause that transfers to the next man in charge in his final will. This man can destroy our hopes long after he's gone.

he's already on record from the dale hansen interview during tc this year that he expects stephen to be the GM as well.

the main difference btw jerry and his son is that stephen looks like the type that will crack under pressure while jerry seems completely unphased by any and all criticism.

Neither did I. It will be much worse if he takes over from Jerry as owner and GM. Going 8-8 will be a luxury then.

My only hope is that he's actually aware of his shortcomings, and do realize he should step aside when Jerry is no longer around.

His bio is as stale as the offensive game plan....there is nothing in there relevant...they talk about the 1990's like it was yesterday...someone needs to work on the bio's for God's sake...

...little stevie is the FO "Next Man Up"....perhaps that is where that came from? (cue: we are lost as an organization with the Jones family in charge)

Being dumb is one thing, being blind to your own capabilities (and those of your offspring’s) is quite another.

Back several years ago, Stephen Jones said in an interview on a radio show that he wasn't going to go his father's route when/if he took over the team. He said that he would hire a GM rather than try to do it himself.

He was held in high esteem by many after that, but his words over the last 5 years or so paint the picture of a guy who - like his father - believes he's the smartest guy in the room and he'll figure this football stuff out as he goes along.

If something dramatic doesn't happen in the front office, we're not going to win big. Best case scenario is a fluke run like the Cardinals had a few years ago (and they haven't really been heard from since).

Strange, they don't seem to have team accomplishments listed in his bio?:D

Seriously, 19 years of saying "why yes, that's a great plan dad" doesn't count as NFL experience.

I was thinking about this the other day, do any of you think he will be as hands on with the organization when he officially takes over the team when Jerry passes away. I hope not but a big part of me thinks he will be.

when i say hands on i mean he pretty much becomes the second coming of Jerry . Makes himself GM and so on.
me and a friend were having a discussion on this the other day and he brought up a scary point, what if Jerry has it in his will that a member of the Jones family must always be GM
