Stephen Jones: Cowboys don't see Pickens as a 2 WR

Stephen recently went public with the idea that he considers Pickens as a 1B, whatever that might mean to a fan, another executive or potentially, a player's negotiating representative. Whatever the effect might be on that individual is likely to affect Pickens' standing as a player.
Oh, I hear you...'you ain't going to taser ME!

Who cares who’s one and whose two? The point is that teams will have to keep their safeties back bc they can’t leave either in single coverage. Pickens makes Lambs life a whole lot easier.

It’s likely just an attempt to encourage him and make him feel good about the opportunity.

It’s not some master plan one way or the other.
The are already handling Pickens with kids gloves by not telling him he's WR2.

If that's a quote from the article, what possibly did he say that has people so scared that Stephen gave away some super secret knowledge?

Im just saying it doesn’t HELP negotiations, so why say anything at all?

Could it be about trying to convince everyone you know what you’re doing despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary?
Fun fact, nothing he said is going to hurt negotiations.

The agents job is to get the best deal he can for his players. If Pickens has an all pro season he's getting paid. Simple as that.

Thank-you Stephen, I know how important it is to stress this point in Pickens contract year.
Do y'all really think such a benign statement is the breaking point in negotiations? It doesn't matter one iota. Not one.

If Stephen really feels this way, extend Pickens right now. If he gets 1,000+ yards and 10 TDs, Pickens price goes up. If he helps the Cowboys make a deep playoff run, his price goes up.

When the Eagles traded for AJ Brown, they extended him shortly thereafter. Didn't have him worried about the stability of his next contract. Now look at him and the Eagles.

Hate the Eagles, but Howie > the Joneses.
Did you know that the player has to want to sign an extension? Like, he has to agree to it In this case the player has said he has no interest in signing one.

So compare us to whomever you want to, not all contract delays are on the Jones. Sometimes like this case, the player flat doesn't want to discuss it and frankly he's smart not to.

Certainly not CD or Pickens.
