How about just being honest with players. Tell them your expectations. In this case, Pickens is the WR2 so just tell the guy.

Pickens has let everyone know that he's happy being a Cowboy. He'll perform as best he can and so, that's pretty doggone good. How Stephen sees him doesn't amount to much. It's just how Pickens feels that counts. He's happy -- and that's likely to affect his play just fine. This offense will do quite well.

Pickens only said that garbage after meeting with Coach Schotty. BS laid down the law on what is expected from him.

That's understandable. Any player talking to his new coach will say whatever it takes to be liked. Let's hope he listens and got the picture. There are things that all coaches must demand upon their guys. When it comes right down to it, it's what happens after all the early talk is over that really matters.
I'm hoping Pickens puts his best foot forward and performs his level best while he's a Cowboy.

If Dak has a year like that and this running game gets rolling Lord have mercy,that would be sweet.Right now it is a dream but that's OK.

What Stephen says in May isn’t going to impact negotiations next year. If that’s all it takes, I would say I view Parsons as a rotational backup. His performance and attitude will dictate his next contract.

I just think Stephen was just being respectful of Pickens talent, knowing he was a #1 previously. It’s not like he is coming in to compete for a top 2 spot. Whether he is a #1B or #2 is irrelevant.

A more devious plan (if Dallas wants to resign GP) especially if the season record is not looking good halfway through would be for the Jones to tell Dak to start throwing the ball more to Cee Dee, more to the 3rd WR and tight ends and less to GP similar to what happened to Amari.

Really looking forward to the adventures this fall.

Never going to happen. Telling Dak to not throw to Pickens for contract purposes would be the kiss of death if that ever got out.

Having that info would be the equivalent of having nudie pics of Charlotte. Dak could get a lifetime contract.
