So we got 5 TE's on the roster. Witten, Escobar, Hanna, Swaim and Gathers. Who gets the boot?

Oh stop. The guy catches an occasional touchdown when he's lost in coverage because nobody cares. What numbers does he put up over a season? He's a bum.

Bro, if you wanna be the dankest poster, you have to maintain your sarcasm through tough challenges.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Don't tell me about what he can't do, tell me what he can do. That's the problem with the unimaginative coaching we have now. A 6'6 pass catching TE and in 3 years they haven't figured out how to use him.

They failed with Martellus Bennett too. Gosh darn those underachieving players.

I asked for numbers over a season. You brought nothing. Because he's done nothing. He's a spare part. Whether he plays or doesn't play won't effect the outcome of that game.

Gathers goes. It seems ridiculous but Swaim might too. Escobar goes after the season. TE is a giant need for this team.

What were his stats in those games?

Escobar is a bum. Nobody cares. His availability is meaningless to the outcome of the games.

Yeah. A bum like Fasano or Bennett.

This team's problem is that unless a TE can block (something few in the league really do), then they aren't on the field as the #2. If they are on the field, they'll rarely see the ball because Witten is always the first or second read because he abuses guys with his ability to "post up" defenders with his size.

I honestly think we took Escobar thinking Written was done in a year.

Me, I'm hoping he shows some promise and leaves on a deal that gives a nice supplemental pick

not sure I believe all this about the players being so close to returning some times the information about injuries is not really reliable lot of day to day that turns out to be lots more

You're right, bruh. Forget those 9 points a game in a series whose games are usually decided by less than a score.

^See how I maintained sarcasm throughout^

Hanna is a very good drive blocking Y and that is what has kept him on the field as it allows Witten to play a lot more of the H/F-back flex stuff to give him better matchups.

Escobar first two years was weak. There is no other way to put it. What stood out to me in remembrance was the Seattle game where he tried to block KJ Wright and Wright ripped him off with ease.

In his third season, I thought he turned a corner and was latching onto guys who could not rip his hands consistently. He's not low cut and squatty like Hanna so leverage is always going to be a struggle for him but he was at least serviceable. He is a one of the better pass blocking TE we've had in awhile. Very good lateral mobility and again those hands to redirect. Then the trainwreck happened with Romo going down.

With the achilles injury I don't know what to expect. He should have maintained the upper body strength but to really make the next step he needed to improve his core and leg strength. That not easy to do with a bum wheel.

I like the player and his development. He has worked to transform his body to be a better blocker, has great hands and runs strong routes. I thought he had a chance to overtake Hanna last year before the injuries.

I like Escobar, too. It's tough because you're not getting those TE2 reps in Dallas if you can't block, and Hanna's the better blocker (and the better overall player). But Escobar has those big soft hands, and he's just a big target. I really thought he'd come on for Weeden, to tell you the truth. He seems like a guy Weeden should have been able to find and it hit in stride on most Ss or LBs. After Dunbar went down, I thought he was the next logical man up. For whatever reason, he didn't take advantage of the opportunity. Now with the achilles, it's a much longer row to hoe before he hits free agency. Maybe he comes back and locks things down, but I think Hanna got his extension and Swaim's in place to be the TE3 in the event of injury to one of the top 2. Escobar's days are numbered here, I'm afraid.

Good post. Would like to comment about Achilles injuries.

The major problem(s) is two fold with the latter being the most problematic. First is rupture of the repair which has gotten much better. Orthopedics has been a rapidly tech savvy and surgical technique field for 30 years now. They just keep getting better and better.

The major issue is lengthening of the repair which creates a problem with ambulation and push off. Again they've gotten better. What they have to do is be very careful about strengthening the repaired limb too much creating an imbalance. They have the facilities, expertise and staff, and equipment to take care of that problem.

So I'm not worried about his strength when he hits the field.
