Ehhhh... that's not really what I was talking about. I'm saying the salary cap takes away any opportunity for any team to build a strong championship contending team. So what we are left with is a crap shoot every year. When's the last time the confetti fell after the Super Bowl and you said that's the absolute best team in the league this year?

The playoff system itself lends itself to that criticism. There were a lot of years without the salary cap where the best team didn't win the Super Bowl. There are still dynasties. The Pats have only had 1 season with less than 10 wins in over a decade.

Dynasties Lite. None of the best teams today could hang with any of a half a dozen teams of the 90's.

Spencer had ONE top year out of SIX. That was the arguement NOT to give him a big contract.

Hatcher has had ONE top year out of NINE. So going on past history and with the RECENT memory of the Rat fiasco, there is no way we give him a fat contract. However I could certainly see them trying to franchise him, that keeps him here for another year and also is a way to pay him for what he has done for the team.

That's your opinion. Some share the opinion that Anthony Spencer was very good here and was the reason our run defense was as stout as it was.

And Hatcher won't get a fat contract because of his age. He's 32. There's a big difference between 28 and 32. Plus the price for defensive linemen has gone down if last offseason is any indication.

please somebody put the pacifier back in stephen's mouth. i'm sick of hearing how "tight" the cap is everytime he speaks. it's sad we have to lose one of the handful of emotional leaders we've had on this team since the 90s all b/c dumb and dumber have destroyed our cap.

Exactly, but according to the "Zone cap experts" we don't have cap issues. They've all been blown up by the media. The current Jones FO has the money part of this team so screwed up we are going to feel it for years!!!

How did he out-play his contract? He negotiated a contract to play according to his abilities...
Wilson is making about half a million dollars. If you think that's all he's worth, the I can't help you.

He's also better than a bunch of veterans, but rookies have a cap. That has nothing to do with the contention. You normally negotiate to play according to your abilities, not according to some percentage of your total abilities. You don't out-play your contract.

I fully understand that Wilson is being paid based on where he was picked in the draft.

If he were a free agent tomorrow, he would likely command many times what he is making now based on his success. He has played significanly better than his contract. He has outplayed his contract. Just the opposite of Miles Austin, who has underplayed his contract.

Ask Seattle management, coaches players or fans if they think they have a bargain in Russell based on how he has played. When he is due a new contract he will get his, until then he is outplaying his contract. I'm not sure how people can argue this.

If we had let Spencer walk last year (like we should have) we would have about $10 Million extra on the books to work with THIS year. I'm not saying we should have used that money to extend Hatcher, but we sure could have put that money to a lot better use than the black hole that is Spencer this year.

So was Wilson negotiating to play according to a percentage of his abilities and not his overall abilities such that he 'out-played' his contract? You out-play your contract by doing more than what your contract states. There is nothing in his contract that says his money is earned by how many TDs he throws or yards he runs...

Your argument is extremely weak. He outplayed his deal in the sense that his market value is far greater than his current deal. You can stick with the "deal he signed" nonsense, but you sound foolish at best.

Exactly. As great as New England is the fact is they haven't won a Super Bowl since 2004.

The league as a whole is watered down. Any team can win any given year. That is advantageous to teams like Seattle, New England, New Orleans etc because they couldn't compete and build their team brand to the status of Dallas, Pittsburgh, Oakland etc.

So now every team in the league has some kind of hole. And we don't get epic matchups between two really great teams like we used to
