Stephen Jones: Hints they are still looking at pass rushers

I really hope they look at Dwight. We need pass rushers. We have none to start the year. Well no one with any consistency. Unless a few arise from camp. Dwight will not command a high salary.

Ryan Russell. A guy I'm pulling for to be honest, but that comment was embarrassing.

Yep and no doubt he is tearing it up in practice against Smith getting all that confidence. I actually feel sorry for the defense having to go up against the offense every day. Talk about two complete opposite ends of the spectrum. They probably dont even need to bother giving the QB the red shirt. They wont get near him anyway.

I actually applaud them not bringing in some aging veteran DE. Lets see what the young kids can do. Its not like Freeney or anyone else at this point is going to take us the SB. Why waste the develpmental opportunities. If there is some diamond in the rough somewhere, then we need to find him and get him going.

I can't think that the few reps Freenet would need means the difference between finding this 'diamond' and not.

Talent shows itself.

Yah, I just dont see the point of Freeney. Fools gold. Are we really a Dwight Freeney away from contending?

Oh good, another hint for the masses to digest. How fun! The Jones way -- keep on messing up the present, but provide hints of a new and exciting future. LOL.

Don't worry everyone, there is help right around the corner! Hint hint!

That's one long *** corner -- it's already taken 20+ years and the team still hasn't turned it. LOL.

It is poor management to expect players with limited pass rushing ability to produce above their ability. None of these young guys are quality pass rushers at this point .

We do not know that. With what they learn this off-season they very well may be quality during the season. We will see though.

In this division? I think so.

Whatever issues the team has defensively, this offense has a steak on every plate and should be Top 5 in the league barring injury.

If you can pair that with even an average defense, I think you could possibly contend.

But if you can't sniff the opposing quarterback? Even the best offense can be out scored.

In 11 games, Freeney would have been this team's sack leader. And now, the guy who did lead this team gives everyone else a 4-game head start.

We absolutely need the help, wherever we can find it.

Do you really want to wait an entire season and one more year of Romo's career to find out?

Clock's ticking...

Although Romo is my favorite player ever, the team is going to move on without him once he retires. Its better long term for us if we are able to develop guys versus trying to pick up 1 year bandaids every year. I do understand your point tho about his window.

I'm not against developing guys at all. And I have yet to see a viable case made for how signing Freeney prevents that.

I'm not crazy about "band aids" either, believe me. But when other options fail, you've gotta what you gotta do.

Certainly some very valid points. No doubt he is better than any the cats we have playing at the moment. And I would expect the offense to be top 2. I just cant see us realistically being a true contender. Once we face a two sided team in the playoffs with the like of Newton or an Aaron Rogers its going to be toast. Arizona? Maybe if we can get home field advantage some way some how.

I'll go as far as to say there's nothing wrong with short term band aids.

In other words, would I want Freeney on a one year deal at say $1mm in base with sack incentives? Absolutely.

Would I want Freeney signed for 3 years with $10MM guaranteed? Of course not.

Would I have wanted Mario Williams on the deal he has with the Dolphins at $8MM per where the Dolphins can cut him in 2017 with only $2MM in dead money? Absolutely.

Would I have wanted Mario Williams on a deal where he's guaranteed like $20MM over 3 years? Of course not.

I think far too often people take this "can't waste money on older vets" angle far too far.

They'll shoehorn it into their attempted argument even if it's totally incorrect and the opposite of everything we know to be true.

Yep, cant figure out why he wouldn't have been a good signing here at a position of need.
Simple. He is a veteran that could have helped but they seem to have really embraced this "progress stopper" thing to a degree that is not healthy.

You cannot tell me for a second that he could not have helped not only on the field but off.

Atlanta's DE situation is in the same vein as Dallas', yet they actually did research, brought him in weeks ago and signed him eventually.
