Stephen Jones - how much blame does he get

I see comments on this board all the time about how Jerry gives away big money to average players and over pays for everyone. I doubt Jerry can spell "CAP" or even come close to managing it. That lies with Stephen, who in my opinion has done a great job since the 90's. Jerry signs the contract to approve it, but I highly doubt he does it without the ok from Stephen. So next time we choose to bash Jerry for overpaying, lets give some slack to Stephen as well.

Personally, I blame the waterboy. He keeps filling these guys up with water and gatorade. Maybe if he witheld fluids from them, they'd get the message.

not much, all he pretty much does is manage the cap, and I think he does a pretty good job of it

and I think he's more level-headed when it comes to acquiring players, I think he's the meat and potatoes type of talent evaluator, while his dad goes for the flash, and they usually end up clashing on those points

They clashed on Deion but it was over the cap hit not about flash.

None of the problems the Cowboys have has anything to do with Stephen Jones. It's ridiculous to even suggest such.

he gets exactly zero percent of the blame, and I think he will be a good owner. We all know who is pulling all the strings here.

All success from 2003-2006 was Bill Parcells and all failure during that time was Jerry. Same thing holds with Stephen and Jerry. All of the smart cap management is Stephen, and all of the overpaying is Jerry. Heck, Jeff Ireland was the guy that gathered tape of Wade's defenses to Jerry and really advocated for him, but Jerry gets saddled with the idea that he took a 'yes man.'

he needed Jeff Ireland to tell him that Wade Phillips was the man to run his 3-4?

Everyone loves Stephen now. Of course the moment he is running the team, and makes his first mistake, he'll be an idiot and the reason Dallas never does anything.

Hopefully, he will never be "running the team" but simply owning it. That's the problem now, the owner is running the team!

Hardly.

He will have a very very long leash from me in terms of mistakes.

His father has a substancial list and it would take a decade or two of ineptitutde for Stephen to even qualify.

The minute he hires a real GM, he already bypasses his father in terms of football intellect.
