Losing starting quarterback Tony Romo for the early part of the season is certainly a blow to the Dallas Cowboys.

But executive vice president Stephen Jones still has a good feeling about the team after training camp and the preseason, and is looking forward to getting the regular season underway Sept. 11 against the New York Giants.

The final roster cuts to the mandatory 53 players is Saturday.

“I really like our football team,” Jones said. “Obviously, no one is naïve when you lose your starting quarterback for some time, which it’s obviously going to be some time. That certainly wasn’t in our plans, you certainly hope something like that doesn’t to happen.

“Obviously, (rookie) Dak’s (Prescott) emergence makes you feel better about having that happen to you because there is a lot of optimism with Dak. Other than that, our team has exceeded our expectations in training camp and guys have performed well and done a really nice job for us. We really feel good about our team.”

Just wondering how exactly did they exceed expectations?

Stephen Jones' limbo bar of expectations:

If you lower it enough, you can't help but to 'exceed expectations'.

Just wondering how exactly did they exceed expectations?

The first team defense(small sample) stuffed the run(they were ran over in last years preseason.Remember San fran and Minnesota?).
Only 3 first half punts in the first three preseason games(offense looks explosive)
Dez looks like he's ready to have a career year
Zeke looks like he's the real deal
quiet optimism the D is better than people think
They think Dak is the next Warner-Brady-Wilson surprise at QB(they think they have something special in him)

A few things. And more importantly, they aren't as banged up as last season. Collins has year of experience under him.

what am I taling about? I forgot, we friggin' suck! sarcasm*

Does anyone really care about Booger & Son's optimeter? If the season goes south, what will they say? "Oops, were were wrong. Someone at The Star is going to be uncomfortable."

Has any member of management of any team expressed anything but optimism? Just once, it would be refreshing if a team executive said "Jeez, we look awful, glad I don't have to pay for a ticket. Re-negotiated my contract to include an "exit clause" that stipulates I can leave any of our games beginning right after the coin toss".

The problem with Booger and son serving dual roles as Head Salesman and Pres, VP and GM of football operations is they also provide our status on the football team.

They place themselves in the line of fire as a result . Whether there's any accountability or not doesn't matter. They are still subject to criticism .

Next comes my favorite "we're not mathematically eliminated yet" ,
