Stephen Jones thinks contracts magically happen

A month or so ago Stephen was willing to speak on a Dak extension saying that the Cowboys wanted him here long term, how you wont hear much chatter, but it will just happen, etc. Now he seems to be sticking to one talking point and not saying anything else.

My gut tells me that Jerry/Stephen had a lot more interest in the extension talk prior to them restructuring his deal. Now that his cap number is reduced for 2023 I get the feeling it wont happen this year unless Dak is OK giving the Cowboys a discount. If not they have no motivation to wait until 2024. it could be a move that bites them in the *** if Dak takes this team to a championship. If they fall short the Cowboys remain in an excellent position to blow this thing up and do a mini rebuild. I have no idea if Jerry would let them suffer through a rebuild, but that's probably the narrative they could use for leverage.

Dak is still getting paid next year, no incentive to sign and if he did there's no home town discount.
The only angle of negotiation this offseason is:
Jones: "Dak, an off season (obviously due to the roster), how about a bit of a discount so we can improve the roster??"
France: "Dak says %£#@".
To be fair to Dak if he does win a championship he'll deserve the money... if he doesn't win one the money won't be that much less.
Can we offer another Franchise Tag??

He's saying he doesn't want it played out in the media for fans to worry about. That it should be done quietly and one day us fans will wake up and find out it was done.
Its what most our fans want until otherwise then they cry anyway lol

So we can get 2 first round picks if he signs with someone else at a higher price than we think he's worth. I'd trade Dak this second for two firsts. However, when Dak finds out the highest bidder with pay him $35M-$40M, we would resign him for that. Not the $50M+ the reports says.

Cap Boy certainly doesn’t think contracts “magically happen”. That’s absurd. He’s just not saying it the way you think he should, and since you don’t like him, you’re pushing a narrative that “validates” your scorn.

The reading skills around here make me sad.

He's talking about the level of emphasis and attention that is being put on contract negotiations. It is not literal. It is also clearly posturing.

Why should we care what Stephen and Jerry says. They have no idea how to run a team. Luckily they have some football guys thats doing the hard work.
Imagine…owners have “football guys” do the work! Quirky!

The contracts are boilerplate pulled straight out of the CBA. They do not quibble over language but instead about dates, dollars, and how the money is structured. Even then the benefits and incentive parameters are all outlined by the CBA.

There are teams of accountants and assistants I am sure but the actual contracts are negotiated by the Joneses.

yes, this is very true and the people posting what they are know it....but I am OK with it, because frankly people need to vent their frustrations to deal with the reality of 30 years of winning nothing.....I get it, really i do but the good news is those same posters upset about the comment are, i guarantee you, happy about this FA period and the volume of guys we have been able to keep plus the trades we made for Gilmore and Cooks.

its ok, its therapy.....for this team, at this point in time, there is very little not to like (outside of a lack of a DT and a few dumb comments by yall know who).,

But still a focus? “I’m not going to comment on that.”

Interesting comment. A year ago he was calling Dak a top 3 QB, now he won't comment on whether extending him is a focus. Hmmm...

Who's giving us 2 first round picks. Bro get over the dollars DAK will get 50 that is the going rate for above average to great players. Daniel Jones just got 40 mil. So let that go please lol

Dak has been injury prome the last few years, hold off on an extension since he's already reworked his contract and let's see how next year (This season) goes.
