Reporters and podcasters lose access if they ask questions that may embarrass cowboys ownership or staff. That’s why they only field softball, overly respectful questions from Dallas media. Asking about Mazis weight is a thinly cornering into admitting they botched it.
Exactly.............I cant remember the guys name, but there was a reporter a couple of seasons ago that asked a question that Jerry and his idiot boy did not like.

Reporter was not at press conferences any more after that.

That is why the media around the metroplex acts like a bunch of lap dogs around Jerry and Cap boy, they dont want to get voted off the island if you will.

There is the undeniable fact that Mazi once made the comment that he didn't like football, but just likes hitting people.

I can't help but to question if that situation can ever be overcome. If he doesn't like football, will he ever overcome it?!

All I read was they drafted a DT they knew would not be comfortable doing what was asked, and did that in the first round.
Exactly...............At Michigan, they use a read and react scheme for their d-line where the DT waits a second or two then either goes to the A gap or B gap (typically).

Mazi was really good in that scheme because he does not have a quick burst, so delaying a second or two before filling a gap worked for him simply due to his strength allowing him to press the gap.

Quinn tried to turn Mazi into a gap penetrator, meaning you either shoot the A gap or B gap (typically) when the ball is snapped. You have to have a really good burst to play this scheme because you need to hit the gap before the guard or center can out leverage you. Like I just said above, Mazi does not have a good burst, so whoever thought he would be a good fit for a penetrator scheme is a total idiot.

Good news is that Zimmer does not run a gap penetrator scheme usually, thus his scheme is not exactly like Michigan's but it is similar. Thus, Mazi should have a better a season this year compared to his rookie year, so all is not lost.

Now if Mazi sucks under Zim's scheme as well, then its official, he is a bust.

This really speaks to their failure as GMs. Not Quinn or Durde. Not scheme. It's their fault for drafting a guy who either sucks or didn't fit. And now they're gonna double down on that mistake by hoping he gets coached up.

They must think Mazi is ready.

They let Hankins walk, and his contract was cheap.

Of course, with Zimm's AAgap scheme, both DTs are in the B Gaps.

At time of that draft, a lot of us were caught up in the hype of that pick.

Hankins is a better player though. Not sure what there were thinking about how to split snaps with him.

They must have been thinking Hankins was a stop gap solution at DT1.

But a lot of the rushing yds against Dallas seemed to be in the C gaps.

That seemed to be the way the scheme worked with that defense.

DEs attack the QB. No contain vs run.

GB figured it out.

We all know of Jerry's failures at the GM position, but did the FO tell Mazi to lose 30 pounds?

This season , under a new DC will tell us more about Mazis abilities.......or lack thereof

Only an idiot would think Mazi decided to lose that weight on his own and the team just did nothing.
Losing thirty pounds is not something any halfway competent coach and training staff is going to miss
So that leaves the conclusion being that the team bought off on it or ordered it
This is NOT on Mazi.
That is on the team

.......specifically on the defensive side of the ball.

Who thought that losing mass on a run stopping DT was a good idea?......... the HC of the Commodores

I am actually curious about the "position" switch and how much it will help. Because they have to salvage this pick and get something out of Mazi. They are woefully thin at DT and Mazi is the only one with upside. The rest are what they are.
