Stephen on the defense

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan: “We got to get an identity on the defensive side of the football. I don’t think we ever established what we were as a defense. We really weren’t a team that created turnovers. We didn’t get the ball. We gave up a lot of explosive (plays). At times it felt like we were (stopping) the run. But we just got a lot of work to do on that side of the ball. I think everybody knows that. We’ll go all in.”

When asked about Dallas’ 2026 defensive coordinator needing to establish an identity: “Bottom line, we need an identity on the defensive side of the ball. I don’t think we established that this year. Whether it’s Coach (Matt) Eberflus or whoever it is, we have to create an identity."

"I think everybody would say that Coach (Brian) Schottenheimer has a ton of energy, he’s very authentic and has an identity. We’ve got to play to that in all three phases. I think we did in one phase (offense) this year. I don’t know that we established that in the other two phases (defense, special teams).”

Music to my ears
Stephen is my guiding light in all matters football

He might just be an even bigger ignorant blowhard than Jerry

"We’ll go all in."

And funny thing is we had an identity in 2021-2023. Frontrunners/soft. Nothing will change as long as the best players are weak. Dlaw is probably in heaven right now surrounded by those players in Seattle.

Well when you continue to load up the offense with an insane amount of talent most years and pay a ridiculous contract to your starting QB who is disastrous in the post season. Then go ahead and disregard the defense for god know how long...this is what you end up with

Diggs was a horrible contract . Had massive red flags written all over him.

Offense sells tickets.

Then hire yes men as coaches with no real GM....insert we will never win anything

So, new DC and STC incoming.

It’s a start but let’s see if they can find a way to get some good players on the defensive side of the ball.

If that identity involves bend don't break, you will continue to fail.

The only decent defenses they have had in recent years is when they were aggressive under Quinn. Before and after that it was a mess.

It is an offensive league, you can't sit back and you have to make QBs uncomfortable.
We had a bend but don't break but it bent 100 yds all the time

I still don't get the feeling Eberflail is gone.
Really? Read his comment. You can’t say your DC couldn’t establish a defensive identity and bring them back

This is the most damming comment so far
