After a strong performance against Chicago, Stephen Peterman has replaced former Pro Bowler Damien Woody as the Lions' starting right guard.
Offensive coordinator Mike Martz made the announcement Thursday.

"Peterman is our right guard right now," he said. "He played exceptional, he was really good and Woody's done a good job for us. But Pete right now, we can't ignore what he's done. He just was superb in that game."
Peterman started in Sunday's victory against the Bears while Woody sat out with a rib injury. Dating to last season, when Woody missed 11 games with a foot injury, Peterman has started three of the Lions' past six regular-season games.
Woody said his injury would not prevent him from playing. Martz would not say whether the move was health-related.
"Peterman's our guard," Martz said. "Let's leave it at that, OK?"
The move comes at a crucial time. The Lions are trying to improve on the league-high 21 sacks they have surrendered, although Martz has refused to lay the blame entirely on the offensive line.
Woody said he was disappointed and surprised when he was told of the move Monday by coach Rod Marinelli and offensive line coach Jim Colletto.
"Am I disappointed? Yeah, a little bit. As a competitor, definitely," Woody said. "But my thing is that I don't get down about it.
"Now's the time to rise up and try to make a statement and go do the things that I need to do out there."
Peterman was Dallas' third-round pick out of Louisiana State in 2004. But after he tore ligaments in his right knee in his last exhibition as a rookie, he missed the entire 2004 season. He felt the Cowboys gave up on him and he played only three games in 2005 before he joined the Lions last year.
"It is a road back," Peterman said. "Since I've been here, Coach Marinelli and them, they've really liked me. I've worked hard. I've done everything they've asked. They've given me a shot, and every time they've given me an opportunity, I've done well. So it feels good to finally start, playing again, getting back out there and helping our team win."
