Stephen: Porter was brought in to play bully ball

Im fine with a few penalties if this defense goes out there and ACTUALLY plays bully ball

So this means they're leaving bland on the outside?
Yeah. Too many hurt DBs. They’ll need downs to not only cover slot receivers but also drop back as a deep safety more.

This week isn’t a good one to see what the defense will look like long term simply because of injuries.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said on @1053thefan that DC Christian Parker “did a great job really walking through how (Joey Porter Jr.) would change us, how we could play bully ball in the boundary and that would only help (DaRon Bland) because we could leave him on the outside and use his ball skills and play-making ability.”

Jones said they did not have any contract talks with Porter’s agents about an extension. “They understood the deal in Dallas would be to come in here and play under his contract.”

Jones explaining some of the trade details (Porter in exchange for a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick): “We also had to have the trade make sense if Joey left after this year. That’s why the (second-round pick in 2028) matches up with if he did leave, the compensatory pick we’d probably get a (third or a fourth) for him and get that back in 2028 when that (second-round pick) is in play.

“It made a lot of sense. It protected us. But the bigger thing is what Joey can do for our team. That’s the biggest thing. We hadn’t totally checked that box in our mind when the season started. We had Bland, but we really thought we needed another corner.

“And it’s always the chicken-and-the-egg in terms of getting pressure (up front) and getting sacks versus covering them (on the back end). If you can cover them another half second then a lot of times the pass rusher gets home. If you don’t, then they don’t get home.

“We understand that a lot of people feel like we need to get more pressure on the defensive side, but the pressure starts to come when you cover them well.”

Thank you for taking the time to post the text. Sometimes they dont for load me

Bully ball?
Moron the good teams will bully you by running the ball right at us
These guys are such tools

Well that worked in the 90s and early 2000s…..doesn’t work any more. They will just get flagged down the field for PI.
FO is full of morons

When Stephen or Jerry try to “talk football”, I always imagine McClay handing them index cards with a few talking points
Jerry literally gets a talking points memo that is extensive on days/weeks when something big happens.

A few years ago before they were doing this, Jerry went on a morning radio show and didn't know they had traded away a player.
- Jerry got angry when the radio hosts pressed him on it. He threatened to have them fired.

Stephen is now the puppet master.
- He keeps Jerry somewhat under control.
- He prevents direct access to Jerry by players and coaches unless it fits his agenda.
- He manipulated the Micah Parsons talking to Jerty ordeal because he did not want to pay Parsons...Coaches didn't trust Parsons to handle getting a mega-contract.
