What? Pickens needs to be traded before the draft. It has nothing to do with how the draft falls.
Sorry, what i meant is its likely they have someone with a late 1st or a 2nd that is thinking about it but they wont do it until they see how they opening of the draft goes....I agree id like to trade him ahead but think it's more likely they get to the bottom of the first and one of those teams is willing to jump out for him bc the 1st eound talent is gone

I could see that and they actually maybe Jeralds plan so he does not have cap space to spend.

Buffalo and NE both should be aware that the top 3 WR's will be gone unless they want to trade up, but they maybe happy with gambling to see if WR4 or 5 makes it to them.

Yeah, and waiting until the draft gives those teams the advantage in case something falls to them...I think the going price for pickens ahead of the draft with a tag on him is a 2nd to a 3rd....with a long term deal its a 1st....come draft day its anyone's guess but anywhere from a late 1st to a mid 3rd seems potential

Alec Pierce will sign before him, and JSN will sign before him, and Puka will sign before him, and then Pickens’ number will balloon. Just like Dez and just like Ceedee and just like Amari who all went down to the wire.

I’m not making fun, There has to be some logic to treating players like this. I’m genuinely curious on why they do it; there has to be an interesting reason
They don't learn from their mistakes, because they don't believe they make mistakes.

They also believe our D is in better shape than it really is. Having Williams all year, Eze on year 2, having Overshown & Revel healthy and better coaching. They are going to optimisticly think we will be better than last year by default.

So he is not going to be signed before FA starts.

Then we have to hold $$28M and the Jones will use it as an excuse to not be active early in FA. Or they will be active and sign low level players like they did last year, thinking that was going to fool fans.
Karnak?

I think they are perfectly fine with Pickens playing on the tag this year and may actually prefer it, especially if his number balloons.

I dont get the point of it unless they want work on a contract or trade next offseason.

Then start looking for potential trade partners now, before FA and definitely before the draft.
No team will consider trading for him without first getting him to agree to a deal. No team can talk to him without Jerry’s expressed consent. So nothing happens.

Pretty much same scenario as Micah.

What if he doesn’t sign the tag?

I think the point is that he was traded from his last team because of behavior. We got one season of good behavior and we can see how he behaves having to play on the tag. If he is discontented and it shows on the field, then we move on next year. If he soldiers on and plays like he did last year, keeping his behavior under control, we give him a long-term deal.

We only have until July 15 to sign him if he's tagged, then it's locked in and both the player and team have to live with it. I'd prefer that we wait a year with a player who his last team gave up on because of behavior, not because of ability. If Pickens balks at it, then he may just be what Pittsburgh thought he was.

Doesn't matter. He has until July 15 to get a deal done. If he doesn't, then the tag is locked in and neither the team or player can revoke it. If he won't play on it, the only option for the player at that point is to hold out. That's the NFL's rule, after July 15, you either play on the tag or hold out.

One difference is Micah could be traded. Pickens can’t unless he signs the tag. Jerry is tangling with the wrong agent on this one.
Can be a sign and trade, though, if another team offers him a deal that he wants and offers the team compensation that it wants. However, I don't think Dallas has any plans to trade Pickens.

His agent will have to have Jerry’s authorization to speak to any team. Jerry is going to do that? No.
Only if we give him the exclusive tag. I think we'll give him the nonexclusive, where other teams can sign him but have to give us two first-round picks.

Jerry can try to use whatever BS leverage he thinks he has. It will not work.

Jerry has already stated Pickens has gone above and beyond his expectations. Jerry is his own worst enemy.

Pickens playing on the tag, will make it difficult to be active in FA. 2 rookies is not going to fix this defense.

I doubt Picken's Agent will would even allow Pickens to play on the tag after the year he just had.

Pickens playing on the tag will not affect Dallas' ability to be active in free agency. The team can create $131 million in space with simple restructures. Any agent who would rather his client hold out than play for $28 million (much more than he has made in four seasons as a pro) is not a good agent. Hardly any players hold out the first year they are tagged.
