Stephen: We haven't thought about Head Coach decision in terms of timing

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones when asked on @SASportsStar about how soon he and Jerry Jones will make a decision about the team's head coaching position:

"We've been so focused on this season that we haven't really even thought about it in terms of timing. Obviously Mike McCarthy and his staff have done a hell of a job for us. We'll really sit down and go over that, but in terms of starting to set up time schedules and those types of things in terms of when we'll make decisions, we haven't gotten to that point."

He's either lying or he and his dad are downright stupid.

Because to not have talked about what to do with the HC position given that his expiration is coming quickly is unbelievable.

Dumb question, but if they let MM's contract expire, must they follow the normal coach hiring procedures such as the Rooney Rule?

I'm guessing yes.

EDIT: I've come to the realization that this is the most frustrated I've ever been during my 40 years of Cowboys fandom. Jerry and Stephen make me sick with the drivel they spout and how they've ran the franchise recently. I say recently because it's now at an all-time low in my opinion.

The more these guys talk, the more I can't believe they run a football team in the national football league.
And the more it makes since why we havent sniffed a Super Bowl or even an NFCCG in nearly 30 years.

Good question. Not sure if they can show proof of an extension prior to his contract expiring if it can slide. Not sure too many teams let a coach play out his contract and still end up keeping him at the very last hour.

It really is. I don't recall me having this level of frustration with them in the 2000s, even when they were doing dumb things.

It could simply be that they've finally burned through my last bit of patience these last few years and now everything they do, right or wrong, just sets me off. LOL.

But there is zero question this is not a very well run franchise at this point. The fact they drafted fairly well over a period of time is what keeps them from being a complete and utter disaster. But that's coming as these guys get older or some leave due to FA and they start to tack mediocre drafts after mediocre drafts like they have had the last few years.

I truly believe if there is not some change in their thinking, we are staring at a pretty dark stretch coming up. Darker than we've seen.

they can say whatever they want,no consequences and a cowed local media in DFW.we should be collectively putting pressure on them but its just status quo year after year.

It is t-minus a little more than 11 days and counting for McCarthy contract to officially expire. Just waiting to see what Jones has cooked up either way.

Garrett was a complete embarrassment to him. All the time, money and energy he put into re-creating his Tom Landry for nothing. He did not make a big deal over that contract expiring to avoid questions he did not wish to answer.

Not the same this time around. He can simply say McCarthy Super Bowl winning style did not 'somehow' translate for some unknown reason in Dallas. He did all he could for his head coach but it did not work out. In other words, McCarthy failed. Not him.

And thus the problem. They don't think about anything period! Jerry wakes up and whatever his mind says that morning. That's what will be done. No thinking needed. Man. I just wish somehow he'd say or do something crazy enough for the NFL to force him to sale this team. That's our only hope folks. Pathetic.

Trying to make Jerra admit he is wrong about something is like trying to play leap frog with a unicorn.

I always had some small glimmer of hope that Steven would be a little different than daddy, but the more he talks, the more I want to jump off a pier with an anvil attached to my butt.

I would not mind watching him make the attempt. Get a running head start. Bend his knees. Jump with all his might! And land short. Just not sure if he would land head first, feet first or butt first.

I've said this before and it bears repeating, not any of the other 31 teams in the league would hire either of these guys for anything football related. They are that bad

Then why did Jerry say the hay is already in the barn on the coaches ! Someone is not telling the truth !
