Drafting one is a multifaceted effective strategy

Most quality positions in FA are $$$$$. Drafting all the players you need is a multifaceted effective strategy unless you have so many holes to fill that you can't draft all the players you need.

There are only so many draft picks to use to fill those needs, and even with that, out of all the ones you use only two to three (if you're lucky) become effective starters.

You can't build a roster that can compete for championships just using the draft and you can't do it just using the draft and cheap FAs. You have to get some of those $$$$ to supplement what you get in the draft or cheap FA or you end up holding some positions together with glue and duct tape, which gets ripped apart by teams that are better built.

Tee Higgins is a terrific number 2. He just got extended for a lot of money. With Chase on the other side they don’t need an “explosive” number 2 but he’s very productive and produced 10 TDs last season. If there was a more explosive WR available they would have explored it. You don’t consider Jaylon Waddle explosive? He’s a 4.3 40 guy who’s had a 1300 yard season. All teams would be interested in acquiring an explosive number 2 receiver if one’s available for the right price. If you have an explosive number one, it limits the need but a solid one-two punch at WR is a huge asset which is why Cincy forked over so much for Chase and Higgins.

There’s a lot of speedsters that haven’t produced in the NFL. The Cowboys Alexander Wright was one. There’s been WRs who didn’t have great speed who were very explosive like Jerry Rice.
