Yeah, he has good short area quickness but his speed and size are marginal. Smart as hell though and has a lot of savvy for a young guy. A very nice 3rd corner and a really good 4th corner, but he isn't a starter, IMO.

Moore is very physical and knows how to blitz. He reminds me of how Aeneas Williams used to play. Not talent wise but his appraoch.

Sam Shields is fast? I've read (I think Broaddus) that he is a physical CB that Dez can outrun if he can get by him off the line.

Saw that article and wondered...

I believe Shields was a 4.2 guy coming out of Miami.

I think Sterling Moore is the upper echelon of CB3s in the league.

You can bet Claiborne will be given every chance to start. He does look alot better in man coverage. And Dallas seems to be playing more of that now

Do we really expect to ever see Claiborne play again? If I recall only a couple of players have ever came back from his type of injury

How much more cap room does it give us to cut Carr as opposed to restructuring him? I'm assuming you believe we will cut Carr.

They can get 8M of cap space in 2015 by making him a June 1st cut. They would not get that much cap space by restructuring him, but the June 1st cut would cause more dead-money to hit the cap in 2016/2017 than if he was restructured.

Obviously, the issue is that they have to replace him. They did go 12-4 and have won a playoff game with him as a starter.

I looked and it looks like "unofficially" he ran in the 4.2s what "unofficial" means. Here is one of the references:

http://www.gridironstuds.com/blog/the-fastest-40-yard-dash-ever/

I don't see any "official" rates less than 4.3 so I stand corrected.

Yes, there are two types of unofficial. There is the officially unofficial times from the combine which are the hand times. Some people think these are more accurate and occasionally, but rarely they are slower than the official electronic times. Then there is the rumored unofficial times. These are various reports of what a guy ran at his school with timing by his coaches, etc.. Bruce Carter was injured at draft time and has no official times, but his rumored time in the forty is 4.38.

If you really want to know how much top speed a player has, looking at the difference between the 10 yard and 20 yard times is revealing. It removes anything related to the start and just shows how fast the player is running. You can calculate MPH from the difference in these 2 times. It would be even better if they published 2 yard or 5 yard times. The difference between the 2 yard time and the 10 yard time would be the best indicator of acceleration while taking out any issues with coming out of the starting blocks. Some football players train to run the forty and perfect their start while others don't. Does anybody really believe that Jeff Heath (4.48) is faster than Dez (4.52)? I'm sure Dez never practiced running the forty while a guy like Heath knew that a good forty would give him a chance to get noticed by and NFL team.

Shields is top 3 in speed among corners. I recommend watching him end the game against us last year with the insane pick he caught

i think that last line should read
They did go 12-4 and have won a playoff game DESPITE him as a starter

It's not as if they have an all star cast around Carr that covered for him. He had to do some things right in order for the team to go 12-4 and win a playoff game against a team with Megatron and Golden Tate.

Claiborne will be a Cowboy next year, but he must learn to play zone, which is still what the Cowboys do most. I believe Carr will accept a reasonable pay cut as long as it doesn't dip below any guaranteed money. Carr continues to improve, but Dallas is still looking for DBs who shine in a matchup zone.

Other than the June 1 cut, it appears that he would cost as much to keep as he is to cut. Why not ride this out for another year with him?

We're lucky to have him as the #3 corner.

He's best suited as a guy who guards the other team's #3 WR.
