Wait, so we're limited offensively with Prescott at QB, per a former coach?

Get out of here.

I truly believe we shouldn't wait for Dak to flounder . We should bring Romo back when he's ready regardless of how we're doing.

But there's more playing into this decision than that. It's about not placing too much pressure on Romo to perform .

He's a savy veteran. When has Romo ever backed down from the pressure . If he doesn't have it or gets hurt again, we all want to know .

Then we can put this debate all to rest once and for all and get on with our future if that's our destiny.

Rich Eisen: How will this offense actually be in the care of [Tony] Romo that would make this team better? Give me the coach's point of view on that Steve.

Steve Mariucci: If you break down the passing game in general with Dak [Prescott] right now, and he's been very efficient, but efficient at what they're doing. They're throwing the ball quickly. They're throwing the ball short and intermediate. He's on the move where you narrow the field down to half and it's higher percentages and lower risk. He can protect himself and the ball when he leaves the pocket. There's some really good things that are going on.

They don't attempt to throw the ball down the field much at all. Tony would give them that part of the playbook that has been limited recently.

Blimey! That is what Tony needs! Yes, stand around and run around long enough to throw the looooonngggg ball. Throw away what has gotten us atop the East.

Romo can take the hits, can't he?

I'd rather be deserted on Gilligans Island with Maryanne.

All kidding aside. I'm not even sure Romo needs to be a 100% to provide a better opportunity for us. But I do agree Dak might eventually provide a better opportunity. Very tough to measure except in the final results.

I still think Jerry is going to screw it up and that might be going with public opinion wave instead of making the tougher decision .

Jerry's got an interesting dilemma for sure, and I certainly hope they are weighing this properly.

I don't want to see Dak get replaced because of a bad game. That sends a message that he lost it by performance, and that's just not true. I don't want him thinking he messed up. I want him knowing he's just in training for a much bigger role soon.

Obviously, you can't replace him if they're just rolling along and he's playing great. But tough times lie ahead for sure. It's got to be done right, and with clear communication throughout.

You can see defenses slowly starting to figure him out a bit. Or more specifically, they're figuring out how Linehan is calling games with Prescott. If the offense gets slugglish, THAT is the best reason to make a change. To throw the league a major changeup right when they're getting Dallas zeroed in.

By next season, I have no doubt that Dak will have added new dimensions to his understanding of the offense and pro game. Romo knows that, and I'm pretty sure Dak knows it, too.

The tougher decision would be to allow Tony's ego to inflate, then watch this very expensive and brittle QB
self-destruct as he takes the hits
And for what? It's not as if Tony is the future, is it?

That is the key
Romo gives you the long pass, but you have to provide extra protection so he can last more than 1 game.
Even then, I doubt he will last more than 2 games.
Sad but look at his last 4 games.
Dak throws sooner or rolls out.
It prevents the chance for negative plays.
What happened in the Green Bay game when Dak stayed in the pocket too long.
Bad things.

A former OC, former QB Coach and former HC making the same observations many on this board have made. But he too will be discredited because it doesn't fit the narrative that Prescott is the best QB in the game.

No, but we need to know in order to make financial decisions moving forward . We can't wait until next year to see if Romo can still play.

One strategy: Keep Romo on the shelf and trade him before next season.
Another strategy: Let Romo play this year and hope he survives. If he survives and we win big, we keep him. If he gets hurt again, then his trade value suffers a lot. If he does not do win, put Dak back in but have distracting QB controversy.

If Tony is healthy and in 2014 form, there is no question in my mind that he is a better passer than Dak at this point. The dilemma is all about messing up the chemistry and momentum the team has right now with a QB change. We also don't know what Tony has left in the tank with all the injury concerns.

I think you let Dak continue to play until Romo is 100% healthy, and you only start Romo this season if Dak hits the wall and starts to struggle. You don't want to mess with what is working right now-- but that does NOT mean Dak is the better overall passer. He is doing some things well right now for sure-- but Tony would open up the passing game in some significant ways.

We have to get over this notion that, just because Tony Romo is a better option for this season if healthy, that has to mean Dak isn't the savior we've been looking for.

Both can positives can be true. I want to see Romo, but I am so overjoyed that we've found Dak. It's Ginger and Maryanne.
...but 3/4 of this board are Gilligans :D

Romo and Dak bring different things. Dak has the mobility that adds a new demension to the offense. Tony is more of a down field threat. Everyone loves the big plays but come the 4th qtr those long, slow, steady drives start to wear on teams.
It's the threat of Tony. Safeties will play deeper, Zeke will have more room.

Look at the bright side, if Tony lights it up, we'll see less and less of these kind of posts. :)

Or this guy.

If we truly believe this board is made up of misfits why waste time here presenting our view and arguing it? What does that say about us?

I think it's actually a smaller portion but they are a more vocal minority.
