Steve "Doc Oc" Octavien:

I for one am really really impressed with this guy, he definitely makes this football team- he plays fast and ferocious on every play, but maintains his assignments in the run game. He reminds me a little of Sam Mills of the Saints back in the day.

Great find. And a superb special teamer. Outstanding job tonight- and he looked good in the Raider game as well. If he had to get PT for an injury to Spencer, I would not worry a bit. If I were Anthony, I'd start to worry a little bit, although Spencer was very solid tonight IMO as well.

Bobby:

Even Bobby made a play on a Vince scramble and dumped him with some authority. Showed great closing quickness I haven't seen from him since the Seattle game. Maybe he's turning the corner- he looked MUCH improved when given time with the first unit tonight. I feel much better about our Nickel D than I had before.

Williams:

Showed TREMENDOUS explosion and burst tonight. A physical freak, don't count him out just yet. He may take a year to be the player we need him to be- but he reminds me of Patrick Willis a bit athletically.

Williams impressed me last week two. He had a couple of chances to close on the QB and blasted him last week.

I agree, he looks like he will be a player with time...

Disappointed didn't see much out of the other two your DEs/LB....

who would you cut to accommodate octavien?

Cut Matt Stewart and Justin Rogers. Between Hodge, Butler and B. Williams someone has to end up on the practice squad. Octavien not only makes the team, I think he sees significant playing time.

B.Will looks like he'll be put on IR. Octavian will replace him. I kept saying "wow who's 53!? that guy is making plays!". Much to my amazement it was Octavian. Plays with passion.

Some people might roll their eyes or think your crazy but I think your right about the Patrick Willis comparison. I never thought about it but I can see it. He's not as polished as P Willy but he's just as athletic. 1 or 2 more years and I think we found something special.

I had the same reaction. I was like wth is that guy? I think after his third nice play, I finally saw the name plate on the back of his jersey. Very impressive performance in that he was constantly active and seemed around the ball and generated solid pressure. All you can ask from a backup.

these would be LBs

OLB: Ware, Spencer, B Will, Butler, Octavien
ILB: Bradie, Brooking, J Will, Carpenter, Hodge

10 LBs is what you want to keep on the roster if you run a 3-4

I've been talking about Octavien since the end of last season. He flies around the field and brings an aggressiveness and enthusiasm that the defense has lacked for years.

The guy can play. I really hope he makes the 53.

I was thinking about you when I saw all the Octavien praise, **. :)

He's small, but he does play like his hair is on fire. With Rogers getting dinged, maybe he has a chance. At the very least, he'd be a good special teamer.

And "Doc Oc" has to be one of the better nicknames ever.

Yep... every time I see the guy on the field, he's doing something good. He's the same height as James Harrison (who was an UDFA too). Not saying he'll be like Harrison... but his height doesn't make him a bad player.

He can play in the NFL, IMO.

Octavian played well for sure on defense.

However, I'm pretty sure that he was the first guy (#53) to blow the tackle on the Titans long kickoff return. He was in position to make the play (in the middle) and didn't. He looked bad while missing.

Then, Bobby Carpenter looked terrible by not shedding a block. He just put his hands up and kind of looked liked he was begging for a holding call. He ended up on his butt. That was pitiful, too.

Austin ran down there but his angle was off.

Special teams better get better or else.

jogging slowly? did you have your slo-mo button on. Sure he wasn't running his fastest, and going sideways, but it was still a great open field tackle that saved a 1st down, and possibly much more yardage. The blocker, issues or not had nothing to do with the tackle itself.

You know you suck at football when Bobby Carpenter tackles you. :D
Now, VY will try to off himself again... this is not USC!

Got to give Octavien credit, if he looked good in the Raiders game without playing, we definitely should keep him. ;)
